UPDATE: Georgetown will host Northwestern on Tuesday, November 15th

Another piece of scheduling news shook loose yesterday with the Georgetown Hoyas set to host the Northwestern Wildcats in this year’s Gavitt Games between the BIG EAST and the Big Ten.

This will be the first meeting between Northwestern and Georgetown. Last season, the Wildcats (15-16), led by Chris Collins in his 9th year, were ranked 87th on Kenpom.

The Gavitt Games are traditionally weekday games in the middle of November. The Hoyas were not in the Gavitt Games last year and were expected to have a Big Ten matchup early in the season this upcoming year. Georgetown is 1-3 in the Gavitt Tip-of Games with a win over Illinois (2018) and losses to Penn State (2019) and Maryland (2015, 2016).

Jon Rothstein also reports the other matchups for the inter-conference games:

  • Villanova at Michigan State
  • Indiana at XavierIowa at Seton Hall
  • Marquette at Purdue
  • Butler at Penn State
  • Nebraska at St. John’s
  • DePaul at Minnesota

The word on the street is that Georgetown’s schedule is pretty much set, aside from a few dates and times that may need to be finalized around the Wizards and Capitals’ schedules.

Weeks ago, fans found out about that Georgetown will be a part of the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic on November 18-20 in Montego Bay. The Hoyas are expected to face Loyola Marymount in Jamaica first.

Wake Forest and La Salle are also in the early season exempt multi-team event. Green Bay and Utah Valley are also reportedly involved, potentially in a separate bracket and may be taking part in pre-event home matchups.

The other scheduling news for Patrick Ewing and Georgetown at this point, includes the multi-year deals with Syracuse (away, Dec. 10th) and South Carolina (home, TBD). A Big 12 contest at Texas Tech on November 30th was announced, as well.
