The opponent for your fighting Hoyas of Georgetown in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle has been reported. According to Jon Rothstein, the Hoyas will be facing the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs as part of the inter-conference matchup.

TCU (12-14) was ranked #140 by Kenpom last year. The head coach of TCU is a former BIG EAST coach, Jamie Dixon, who was with Pittsburgh for 13 years, with a record of 328–123.

This will be the third year of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle, with Georgetown losing to West Virginia last year and beating Oklahoma State in 2019. The matchups typically take place in early December, featuring 10 of 11 BIG EAST teams and 10 of the Big 12 programs. In 2019 the BIG EAST was 8-2, while last year the six games that weren’t canceled were split 3-3.

The contract is set to run out next year, after the 2022-23 season.

Last month, it was announced that Georgetown will join USC, Saint Joseph’s, and San Diego State on November 25 and 26 for two games at the Anaheim Convention Center as part of the 2021 Paycom Wooden Legacy.

According to Jon Rothstein in April, Georgetown was reportedly replacing TCU in the Wooden Legacy. Coincidence?

From what fans have seen so far, the schedule still needs work. With expected games against Syracuse and a Big Ten opponent, there are still a handful of slots for games in November and December—even considering a full 20 BIG EAST conference game slate this year.

Patrick Ewing and staff are likely busy recruiting now that the “dead” period is over. And freshmen basketball players are expected on campus within the week. Still, hopefully a couple stronger non-conference matchups come out soon.

UPDATE: The Georgetown vs. TCU game will be December 18th, 2021.
