Your fighting Hoyas of Georgetown have announced their participation in next season’s multi-team event to be the 2021 Paycom Wooden Legacy on November 25 and 26, 2021.

Georgetown will join USC, Saint Joseph’s, and San Diego State on November 25 and 26 at the Anaheim Convention Center. There are expected to be only two games and the matchups and ticket information will be announced later.

With St. Joe’s ranked #202 for last season on Kenpom.com, San Diego State ranked #30 and USC ranked #6, Georgetown (#63) fans likely want the Aztecs and Spartans rather than the Hawks.

According to Jon Rothstein last month, Georgetown was reportedly replacing TCU in the Wooden Legacy, held in Anaheim California. Georgetown was involved with the Wooden Legacy in 2020 with UCLA, UVA, and Kansas until COVID-19 got in the way.

Georgetown to Take Part in 2021 Paycom Wooden Legacy

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men’s basketball team will compete in the 2021 Paycom Wooden Legacy, as announced on Thursday. The Hoyas will be joined by USC, Saint Joseph’s and San Diego State to round out the four-team field. Games will be played November 25 and 26 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Matchups and ticket information for the 14th annual event will be announced at a later date. The four-team, two-day tournament will be played under a new format as compared to the past Paycom Wooden Legacy events where the competition featured a three-day bracket competition during the Thanksgiving week.

ABOUT THE FIELD

  • In the 2021 BIG EAST Tournament, Georgetown defeated Marquette, Villanova, Seton Hall and Creighton to win the conference championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Both USC and San Diego State finished last season ranked in the AP Top 25.
  • The Trojans sported a 25-8 overall record, and advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
  • San Diego State has been crowned Mountain West’s regular-season champion the past two seasons, under head coach Brian Dutcher, who boasts a 96-31 record over the last four seasons for the 10th best win total among NCAA Division I schools during the period.
  • Saint Joseph’s won four of their last five games to end last season and enter the 2021-22 season under third-year head coach Billy Lange.

The 2020 Paycom Wooden Legacy was canceled due to the pandemic where the Hoyas were scheduled to compete along with Kansas, UCLA and Virginia. The early-season event was created in 2013 when the John R. Wooden Classic was merged with the Anaheim Classic, formerly an eight-school bracketed event played for six years (2007-12) at the Anaheim Convention Center. Past winners include USC (2007), Wake Forest (2008), West Virginia (2009), UNLV (2010), Saint Louis (2011), California (2012), San Diego State (2013), Washington (2014), Michigan State (2015), UCLA (2016), Washington State (2017) and Seton Hall (2018).

Georgetown was previously linked to the Orlando Invitational set for ESPN and Walt Disney World but that was not official. Jon Rothstein reported the Wooden tournament field a month ago.
