The Georgetown Hoyas Men’s Soccer Team begins the NCAA Tournament and defense of their championship.
Bobby spoke with Coach Brian Wiese to talk about the team ahead of their game 1 matchup
Despite losing players to the pros at various points during this unusual spring season, the Hoyas earned one of the top 8 seeds.

Coach Wiese has built a culture @GUHoyasMSoccer where players have stepped up and expect to win every match.
Of course, Bobby couldn’t help but throw in a bit of discussion about the Super League.
And we also found a way to talk about the (failed) Super League so there's that.

Hey, let's get promotion/relegation stateside!
GUHoyas wrote about the men’s team’s matchup:
The Georgetown University men’s soccer team (8-1-2) earned the No. 8 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament on Monday afternoon. The tournament consists of 36 teams where the top eight are seeded, and 28 teams received a first-round bye. This marks GU’s ninth tournament berth in the past 11 seasons and 11th overall.
About the Matchup
With the seed, the Hoyas have secured a first-round bye.
Georgetown will face High Point on May 2 at the Sportplex in Matthews, North Carolina. Kickoff is set for noon.
Both the men’s and women’s NCAA Tournament have been moved entirely to North Carolina.
Additional details on how to follow the action will be released at a later date.
How They Got Here
Georgetown suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday falling 2-1 to Seton Hall University in the BIG EAST Championship final.
The Blue & Gray has been in the national rankings all year sitting at No. 2 in the country by the United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll. The team is also No. 2 in the RPI.
NCAA Tournament History
The Hoyas are the reigning national champions after winning the title in penalty kicks over Virginia in 2019.
Georgetown’s NCAA Tournament berth is the ninth under Head Coach Brian Wiese.
The Hoyas have been to the tournament on 10 previous occasions with seven trips to the Round of 16 (2019, 2018, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 1997) and two to the quarterfinals (2014, 2012).
In 2012, the squad was the national runner up, falling to Indiana 1-0 in the national championship game. Prior to that season, the program had never moved beyond the second round of the tournament with previous appearances in 2010, 1997 and 1994.
The Hoyas are 14-6-5 overall in the NCAA Tournament.
This is the eighth time the Hoyas have earned a seeding in the tournament. In 2014, Georgetown was the No. 8 seed advancing to the quarterfinals.
The Georgetown women’s team is seeded no. 13 overall after winning the BIG EAST Championship.
