PREVIEW

Well if you need more than what’s in the pre game podcast with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Marquette beat reporter Ben Steele or what Coach Patrick Ewing and starting freshman point guard Dante Harris had to say on New Year’s Day, here are somefinal things to think about.

Both of these Jordan Brand schools are bad defensively. They are the worst two in Big East play although that doesn’t really give DePaul - who just had their game with St. John’s postponed during the writing of this post - a fair shot as they played just three games (1-2).

Which team can take advantage or the lack of defense? Well, you might not like the numbers here. The thing is that in conference play Georgetown is also bad offensively, coming in 9th in KenPom. Even with Markus Howard - who had 42 the last time these two teams played - gone, Marquette is second in the league using those same metrics, behind only Villanova. Kobe McEwen leads the team in scoring with 14.2 points per game while newcomer D.J Carton (Ohio State), Jamal Cain, and Dawson Garcia all score in double-figures. Theo John returns for what feels like a 10th season.

While both teams are hoping to avoid a 1-4 start in Big East play, coach Steve Wojciechowski’s group is a much better shape with a win at Top 10 Creighton and Top 5 non-conference W against Wisconsin.

Also, what do we make of Ewing’s comment that Malcolm Wilson has earned more minutes? Does this have to do with maybe trying to match up with preseason Big East Freshman of the Year Dawson Garcia? Garcia is 6-foot-11 and would probably be too tough of a guard for Timothy Ighoefe away from the hoop. I think if you listen to the podcats - Hey, if you don’t please subscribe, listen, and rate today! - you know where I stand on this. I’d play smaller when Qudus Wahab takes a breather.

It’s a new year and with that comes home and promise. For Georgetown fans that seems to be more minutes for Kobe Clark, Jamari Sibley, and TJ Berger. Ewing said there wouldn’t be any shake ups to the line-ups but we’ll see.

Well, I hope everyone enjoys the rate Saturday night home game. This is the world Georgetown could be living in all the time if not for those pesky NBA and NHL schedules.

Bobby’s Prediction: Marquette 82, Georgetown 75
