Is Georgetown Considering a New Throwback Uniform?

A “Pick3” Twitter survey could be more than just quarantine fun.

The Georgetown Basketball Twitter account is joining in the quarantine survey-like fun to see which jerseys we the fans like from the following nine former/retro jerseys.

Perhaps this is no more than a fun exercise, but the data could be useful if Georgetown and Nike/Jordan Brand could take some time to design something classic and cool.

Maybe voting can change your life for the better?

A little background and a better look may be helpful, too. Here are the options:

1. 2002-05 Home White

“Ashanti Cook #0 of the Georgetown Hoyas handles the ball against the Seton Hall Pirates during round one of the Big East Men’s Basketball Championship on March 9, 2005 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.”

These jerseys were pretty sweet when rolled out with Mike Sweetney and the gang in 2002, but stuck around for several seasons.

Fun fact: Ashanti Cook, now an actor, is a consultant for Space Jame 2 and was recently seen in my favorite show “Better Call Saul.”

2. 2013-14 Black Kente

“Jabril Trawick #55 of the Georgetown Hoyas goes for a jam during a college basketball game against the Michigan State Spartans on February 1, 2014 at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. The Hoyas won 64-60.”

3. Home Gray 1994-96 (a.k.a. “Iverson Era Kente”)

Allen Iverson...

Can’t we just bring these out twice a year for GRAY OUT games?

4. 2018-2020 Away Tidal Blue

“Georgetown Hoyas head coach Patrick Ewing talks to center Qudus Wahab (34) during the first half against the Xavier Musketeers at the Cintas Center. Xavier won 66-57. Credit: Frank Victores”

There are a lot of opinions about this teal jersey. Many fans think it’s a jinx. Ewing says it reminds him of his freshman year (image #9). And Jagan Mosely said it’s his favorite. My biggest issue with this is the inconsistency of how the color appears on different screens. It looks fantastic on some photos and then looks green on some broadcasts. There’s a nice teal color out there that Nike needs to find for a third jersey.

5. 2013-2016 Away Navy

6. 2006-07 Away Navy

This jersey has more meaning than looks. However this is not a bad base if you throw some kente on it.

7. 2016-2019 Home Gray

A strong effort for a new era of kente, this was dropped as the home jersey this past season in favor of the white jersey (yikes) and the throwback that has been used for the past 5+ seasons. It’s cool, but time for a change.

9. 1981-82 Away Blue

Sleepy Floyd getting fouled by notorious hack Michael Jordan during the 1982 championship game.

This is the “inspiration” for the tidal blue throwbacks. I feel like it’s a nicer blue, but photo and TV quality of the 80s make it hard to tell.
