SCHEDULE NEWS: Hoyas to Host UMBC to Open Season

Stadium reports that the Georgetown Hoyas will play UMBC on November 25!

It appears that the Georgetown Hoyas will host the UMBC Retrievers to open their 2020-21 non-conference schedule, per Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

In the Stadium report, “UMBC at Georgetown” is listed as an “Individual Matchup,” and not part of any multi-team event.

Part of the America East conference, UMBC currently has a strange schedule of back-to-back conference games, but no Georgetown on its website. GUHoyas has not been updated, and Patrick Ewing was unwilling to discuss his non-conference schedule last week at BIG EAST Media Day.

In June, John Rothstein reported the two local teams would meet, but so much has changed since then.

Last season, as part of a very fine December, Georgetown blew out UMBC at Capital One Arena. A local team and member of the America East Conference may be just what Georgetown needs to open up and prepare for a tough four game BIG EAST gauntlet in December, let alone the remaining 16 games of the conference season.

While UMBC may not be the opponent we’ve all been waiting to appear on the schedule, the 2020-2021 season is shaping up to be pretty tough for a young, unproven Georgetown team.

Here’s the best guess at Georgetown’s 2020-21 schedule:

  • Nov. 25 UMBC @ GEORGETOWN
  • 2020 Wooden Legacy
  • WVU (home) in early December, BIG EAST-Big 12 challenge (still expected)
  • Gavitt Game
  • One or two other non-conference games between 11/26 and 12/10?
  • Dec. 11 VILLANOVA @ GEORGETOWN
  • Dec. 13 CONNECTICUT @ GEORGETOWN
  • Dec. 20 GEORGETOWN @ ST JOHN’S
  • Dec. 23 GEORGETOWN @ SETON HALL
  • 16 more BIG EAST games, starting January 1, 2021
  • Syracuse (away) on a Saturday in January...
