Two of our favorite Georgetown Hoyas seniors are traveling to Virginia to participate in the oldest amateur basketball tournament in the United States—the 67th Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.
The PIT invited 64 of the best college basketball seniors from across the nation to compete in “the four-day, twelve game tournament in front of scouts, general managers, and representatives from all 30 NBA teams.”
The rosters, announced on Monday, April 15, 2019, feature senior centers/forwards Trey Mourning and Jessie Govan.

Jessie Govan will join Sales Systems, Ltd. with coaches Kenneth Harris and PJ Honore, Jr., as well as NBA Asst. Coach Xavier Silas.
Trey Mourning is on Norfolk Sports Club with coaches Mike Head and Mark Butts (c’mon, really?), as well as NBA Asst. Coach Mark Jones.
The games will go from April 17th to Saturday, April 20th, 2019.
It appears the tournament will be streamed with two games featuring Hoyas tonight:
- Portsmouth Invitational 2019: K&D Rounds vs Sales Systems (Game 1) 4/17/2019 7:00 PM
- Portsmouth Invitational 2019: Roger Brown’s Restaurant vs Norfolk Sports Club (Game 2) 4/17/2019 9:00 PM
The winners of those games play Friday night while the losers play Thursday afternoon.
NextStep Basketball has some thoughts on the featured players, with a rough take on Govan that completely ignores his solid shooting ability.
With a full week at the Portsmouth Invitational ahead, wrote down some quick thoughts and questions on all the 64 players invited. Always a fun week at the PIT.

The tournament is heralded as the top all-senior tournament with all “sixty-four players from the 2018 PIT are currently playing professionally either in the NBA, the G-League or overseas” and 16 playing in the NBA this season.
Past players include “include Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, John Stockton, Tim Hardaway, Ben Wallace, Avery Johnson, Jeremy Lin, Rick Barry, Dave Cowens, and Earl Monroe.”
Also participating is Campbell’s hot-shooting Chris Clemons who dropped 45 points on Georgetown earlier this season (Mourning had 27).

Best of luck, Trey and Jessie!
I have a sneaky feeling the @GeorgetownHoops @OmerYurtseven5 is going to be one of college basketball’s best transfers in 19-20. Fits perfectly with 4 starters back. Anxious to see his improvement.

UPDATE 4/18:
Both Govan and Mourning will advance in the tournament as each of Sales Systems and Norfolk Sports Club prevailed in their respective games. Replays of Game 1 and Game 2 are available on YouTube and through P.I.T.’s streaming page.
