When Jessie Govan sank a deep 3-pointer as time expired in the first half to give the Hoyas a 34-27 lead at Providence on Wednesday night, the senior big man joined a very elite club at Georgetown.
Govan’s 35th 3-pointer of the season put the native of Queens Village, NY over the 1,500 career point mark at Georgetown, becoming the 16th player to reach the milestone.
But wait, there’s more!
Govan is now just the sixth player in school history to score over 1,500 points and grab at least 750 rebounds. The list is really a who’s who at Georgetown.
Here’s the club: Patrick Ewing (Govan’s coach), Reggie Williams, Alonzo Mourning, Othella Harrington, Mike Sweetney, and now Jessie Govan.
Four of the guys in the group were first round NBA picks while Harrington was a second round pick that played in the league for 12 seasons.
Govan will have at least nine more games to add to his already impressive totals at Georgetown.
