Reports: McClung OUT for Georgetown’s Big East Opener at Providence on NYE

Mac McClung will be out tonight with the eye injury he suffered against American Dec. 28

NCAA Basketball: Syracuse at Georgetown Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Well, Georgetown will not be ringing in the New Year with a healthy Mac McClung.

McClung was injured in the first half against American although he did stay in to make both of his free throws before exiting for good. (McClung is 45 for 50 from the line this season)

The sophomore guard is second on Georgetown in scoring at 15.5 points per game and has upped his scoring to 20 ppg on the Hoyas current six-game winning streak that started with the first set of transfers nearly a month ago. McClung averaged 14.5 points in two Georgetown wins over the Friars last season.

Coach Patrick Ewing will likely start Jahvon Blair for the injured McClung, leaving just Qudus Wahab as the only regular on the Hoyas bench.

Blair last started as a freshman when he did so twice. Blair is currently averaging 7.5 points per game but has hit for double-figures in four of the last five including a career-high tying 21 at SMU on Dec. 7.

This will probably mean more of George Muresan and Jaden Robinson. McClung had been averaging 30 minutes per game before only playing 15 last time out due to the eye injury.

Muresan and Robinson have combined for 32 minutes and three points this season.

McClung missed four games last season including the Hoyas conference opener. Georgetown went 2-2 without McClung.
