JACK ATTACK, the squad of Georgetown alums that will be competing in The Basketball Tournament this summer for a winner take all prize of $2 million, has had a slew of roster changes in the past week ahead of The Tournament’s opening Big East pod games this weekend.
When the squad was first announced by General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Ewing, Jr., the following former Hoyas comprised the roster:
Chris Wright
Austin Freeman
Greg Whittington
Rodney Pryor
D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera
Brandon Bowman
Aaron Bowen
Bradley Hayes
Jerrelle Benimon
However, due to a number of issues ranging from overseas contracts to injury to possible NBA Summer League invites, below will be the roster for JACK ATTACK this weekend as it aims to advance to the Sweet 16 of The Tournament:
Chris Wright
Austin Freeman (likely)Greg Whittington
Rodney Pryor (maybe)
D’Vauntes Smith-RiveraBrandon Bowman
Aaron Bowen
Bradley Hayes
Jerrelle Benimon (maybe)
Trey Dickerson
Jonathan Mulmore
Welcome aboard, Trey and Jonathan!
In addition to the above, there are three new additions to the team that have no previous Georgetown affiliation, all of whom played basketball with DSR at some point in his hometown of Indianapolis. These players are:
John Murray (SG, Austin Peay, 13 points and 3 assists v. Kansas in NCAA Tournament)
Mike Ramey (SG, Southern Mississippi)
Alvin Boutte (PG, Detroit Mercy)
Daeshon Francis (SG, UT-Permian Basin, Division II First Team All-American 2017-18)
One other thing: Patrick Ewing, Jr. will be unable to coach the squad this weekend in Milwaukee and will be replaced on the bench by former Hoya Tyler Adams! Adams, a Georgetown fan favorite whose basketball playing career was stalled by heart ailment, has been coaching high school basketball in his home state of Mississippi. A great feature on Adams can be found RIGHT HERE.
JACK ATTACK has been assigned a 6 seed and will play the 11 seed HALL IN, a team of Seton Hall alums in Round 1 of the Big East pod. The winner will face the winner of the 3 seed Marquette alum team v. the 14 seed St. John’s alum team.
