Schedule Update: Georgetown to Face Illinois in Gavitt Games

NCAA Basketball: Georgetown at Villanova Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Georgetown will play at Illinois on Tuesday, November 13th in the 2018 Gavitt Tipoff Games, multiple sources relay to THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON.

This will be the 4th year for the Gavitt Tipoff Games, named in honor of the Dave Gavitt, former athletic director at Providence College and the first commissioner of the Big East Conference. The games feature teams from the Big East the Big Ten.

The Hoyas are 0-2 in the Gavitt Games so far, with both losses against Maryland. Georgetown did not play in the Gavitt Games last season.

The Fighting Illini are coming off of a 14-18 (4-14) season under coach Brad Underwood. Leading scorer forward Leron Black left the school after last season to pursue a pro career, and, like the Hoyas, the Illini roster features a young nucleus of recruits.

While this game isn’t a headline-grabber, it does provide the Hoyas with an opportunity to grab a true road win against a Power 5 opponent.

In addition to the Gavitt Games, we know Georgetown will play at Syracuse, will host Richmond, and remains in the mix for the Jamaica Classic, which should reveal its full field in the upcoming weeks.

Press Release from Georgetown:

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University’s men’s basketball team will play at Illinois on Tuesday, November 13 as part of the fourth annual Gavitt Tipoff Games, as announced by the BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences today.
