Per Ken Pomeroy in this piece in The Athletic, the Hoyas are the best team in the entire nation in defending the slam dunk! That’s right kids, no other team in the country has given up fewer dunks than our beloved Fighting Ewings!
Blurb on the Hoyas:
1. Georgetown. It hasn’t been the most exciting season for the Hoyas. They’re struggling to finish above .500 even after playing one of the weakest non-conference schedules in recent memory. But one thing Patrick Ewing’s team has done well is prevent the dunk. Georgetown has played four games against top-30 dunk offenses and allowed a total of two dunks in them. And on Feb. 6, the Hoyas turned the Dunkin’ Donuts Center into the Do Not Dunk On Us Center. (OK, Providence had one dunk in the game, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use that line.)
Jessie Govan and Marcus Derrickson are not your traditional rim protectors in the sense that they don’t block many shots. But they have kept the rim from being violated as well as anyone this season. Way to go, guys!
The You Can’t Dunk On Us Hoyas take on the Villanova Wildcats in the regular season finale on Saturday in Philadelphia. Interestingly, the Wildcats are the 5th best dunking team in the country per the same article.
Something has got to give!
Tune in to find out!
