Jamorko Pickett named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

An 18-point performance in the Hoyas win over Seton Hall earns him some hardware.

Shall we throw a block party in his honor?

For the first time this season, the Georgetown Hoyas’ talented wing has picked up some conference accolades. The Big East Honor Roll announcements came out this morning, and Jamorko Pickett was named Freshman of the Week.

The Hoyas went 1-1 last week, picking up a big win over Seton Hall. Pickett averaged 12.5 points and 5 rebounds in those two games, including an 18-point performance in Saturday’s contest where he was able to provide an effective counter to the Pirates’ hot shooting in the second half.

Pickett was the first Top-100 recruit that Patrick Ewing brought in after becoming head coach, convincing the talented forward to choose Georgetown over Maryland. Upon committing to the Hoyas, it was said that Pickett wanted to attend a school where he felt as though he could make an immediate contribution. This was prescient, as the freshman has started nearly every game this season and already hit 43 three-pointers. However, his ability to use his length to pull of blocks like this one is what is really going to bring down the house in Capital One Arena over the next few years.

We’re glad he’s a Hoya. Congratulations, Jamorko!
