Georgetown Men’s Basketball Announcement
Georgetown University men’s basketball coach Patrick Ewing announced today that sophomore forward Antwan Walker (Washington, D.C./Hargrave Military Academy) has been dismissed from the program. Walker averaged 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 7.3 minutes in 25 games in his freshman season.
...................................................
Walker is the second player to be dismissed from the program in the Ewing era, as center Chris Sodom was dismissed from the team last season after an off-campus altercation. There is some speculation that Walker was involved in an altercation as well.
Impact on the Team:
- Walker flashed towards the end of last season and after a strong performance in Kenner League, was projected by some to perhaps start for the Hoyas or at least play substantial meaningful minutes as part of Ewing’s rotation. Moving forward, freshman forward Josh LeBlanc is likely to see increased minutes due to Walker’s departure. Trey Mourning, Kaleb Johnson and Greg Malinowski now have a path for more minutes as well.
- Ewing has clearly taken a no-nonsense approach to the team, which while certainly good from an optics standpoint, has arguably cost the Hoyas two players with strong potential. Is dismissal from the program really warranted from an alleged altercation? Could alternative punishment for said alleged altercation be a multi-game suspension? Perhaps. Perhaps not. In any case, we soldier on.
