The year 2019 is a ways off, but not when it comes to recruiting.
Georgetown is already taking a closer look at 6-foot-8 forward Jason Murphy. According to a source, Hoyas assistant Kevin Broadus attended the Chapelgate Christian Academy (Marriottsville, Md.) standout’s game Wednesday night. Murphy is also expected to attend Georgetown’s home game Saturday against Seton Hall.
Murphy has an official offer from Old Dominion, but the power conference programs are taking notice. The Owings Mills native recently visited North Carolina and took in a Tar Heels home game. Maryland, Texas, Villanova and Virginia are among the other schools checking out the promising prospect.
“I think I’m fairly athletic and I think I’m pretty strong,” Murphy told Scout.com during his visit to UNC. “[Assistant coach Steve] Robinson told me he liked how patient I am offensively, how I’m always moving and how aggressive I am on the floor. I consider myself a hustler on the court and my coach says I’m a very good shot blocker.”
Kevin Sutton was the original recruiter on Murphy before joining Pittsburgh’s coaching staff. Broadus picked up the trail this season.
