Game Recap: Hoyas Open Italy Tour with 74-64 Win

Your Fighting Hoyas of Georgetown opened up its series of exhibition games in Italy with a 74-64 victory over Haukar Basket, a professional team from Iceland.

The Hoyas played without star guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, who is still recovering from an anke injury suffered this summer.  With DSR sidelined, Jessie Govan, Isaac Copeland, Paul White, L.J. Peak and Tre Campbell earned starting nods for the Hoyas.  Freshman forward Marcus Derrickson led the Hoyas with 20 points on an impressive array of three-point shooting and play under the basket.

Kaleb Johnson was the 1st off the bench for the Hoyas, who received contributions from Reggie Cameron and Trey Mourning as well.  However, the story today's game was the play of Derrickson, whose hustle in his limited 1st half minutes earned him a start in the 2nd half and he never looked back.

For comparison purposes, Marquette defeated this same team by 7 points earlier this week.  The Hoyas are back in action on Tuesday at 12:30pm eastern against Dream Team Italy Select, which certainly sounds imposing.
