Trawick Named to All-Tournament Team at Portsmouth Invitational

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior men's basketball player Jabril Trawick (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends) was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the Portsmouth Invitational on Sunday, the first step in what the senior hopes will be a future in playing the game he loves as a professional.

Trawick was one of 64 of the best college basketball players (all seniors) from across the nation invited to participate in the four-day, 12-game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team, as well as teams from overseas. The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, in existence since 1953, was held from Wednesday, April 8 to Saturday, April 11 at
The Churchland High School Sports Complex in Portsmouth (Va.).

Trawick played in two games during the PIT, averaging 15.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals. He connected on 42.3 percent of his shots from the floor (11-of-26) and was 2-of-5 from 3-point land and 5-of-9 from the free throw line.

The senior, an English major, returned back to campus one day because of academic obligations.

"It was fun," Trawick said this week from campus. "We had a great group of guys on our team and we really gelled in the short time we had together. It was a good experience."

The weekend visit started with each player going through skills and agility testing. They also participated in an orientation session from NBA representatives, who spoke to them about opportunities including the NBA Developmental League and options abroad.

"Every game I played there were a lot of scouts," he said. "It was great exposure for me and it was a great opportunity to play in front of people from teams in the NBA and in Europe."

Trawick was especially glad to have made the most of his opportunity and being selected to the all-tournament team.

"I was happy with how I played," Trawick said. "I was having fun. It was serious, but at the same time it was a fun competition. I thought I really stayed within myself and didn't push it too much. Now it's just a matter of continuing to work and staying ready for that next opportunity."

In the meantime, Trawick will continue to hit the books as he finishes his senior year and gets ready for graduation in May.

"I'm ready to see what's next," Trawick said. "Georgetown did a great job of preparing me. College has been unlike any experience I've had in my life. Four years here was four years like no other. I'm going to miss it a lot - the atmosphere, the lifestyle, the people I've met - but I'll always carry Georgetown with me."
