Georgetown squashed Creighton's upset ambitions Saturday with a 17-minute stretch in which the Hoyas outscored the hapless Bluejay offense 31-3. That push, more glacial drift than explosive run, was the difference in what ended up being a runaway 67-40 Georgetown win. Hoya guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera led all scorers with 24 points, canning 4 of Georgetown's 10 three-pointers and providing much-needed spacing for Georgetown's offense.
The Hoyas were expected to win at bottom-feeding Creighton, but such an emphatic trouncing was encouraging after Tuesday's anemic loss to Xavier. The win puts Georgetown in a three-team bunch just one loss behind Villanova for first place in the conference. Another member of that trio is Providence, which visits the Verizon Center for showdown early next week.
We'll have more later this evening, but until then, Hoya Saxa.
