Georgetown men's soccer headed to NCAA Tournament

The Georgetown Hoyas men's soccer team is headed to their 4th NCAA tournament in 5 years. The bracket was announced on Monday. The Hoyas received an at-large bid after advancing to the semifinals of the Big East Soccer Tournament, where they lost a tough game 1-0 to Xavier on Friday night at PPL Park in Chester, PA.

The Blue & Gray has been in the national polls for the entire season. Last week, the team was No. 8 in the NSCAA poll, No. 9 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's poll and No. 5 in the NCAA's last RPI.

The Hoyas are ranked the #8 overall seed in the country. The tournament sports a 48-team field where the top 16 national seeds get byes to the second round. The Hoyas will face the winner of Old Dominion and our new old friends St. Francis (NY). The Monarchs and the Terriers will square-off Tuesday in Norfolk, VA at 7:00 PM. The winner will face the Hoyas on Sunday, November 23rd at 1PM ET at Shaw Field.

The Blue & Gray will play the winner of Old Dominion University and St. Francis College Brooklyn. Georgetown is 2-3 all-time against Old Dominion after defeating the Monarchs, 3-0, in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament and has never faced the Terriers.

The Hoyas lost to Michigan State in the Sweet 16  last season. Should the Hoyas advance past that first game, they are in line to potentially host Syracuse the next week in the Sweet 16. Syracuse is the #9 national seed and faces the winner of Penn State and Hartwick.
