  • This was Georgetown's best defensive game of the year and the first time this season that the Hoyas played to a sub 90 defensive efficiency in both halves.
  • Lipscomb was held to an eFG% of 30.2% and only shot 18.6% on jumpers. While Lipscomb missed several open 3's, I thought from watching the game that Georgetown did a much better job on their rotations then what I've seen so far this year.
  • Close-to-the-rim, Lipscomb shot 54.5% in the first half at a 33.9% rate, but was then held to 25.0% shooting at a 12.6% rate in the second half. I would need to look at line-up data to confirm this, but I would venture to say the Smith - Hopkins pairing that received extensive minutes in the 2nd half may have played a role in this and hopefully we'll see more of it.
  • Georgetown was also very effective on the defensive glass and recorded its highest defensive rebounding percentage so far this year.
  • On offense, Georgetown kept turnovers low throughout and paired a poor shooting first half with an efficient shooting second half, which was primarily the result of Georgetown converting 42.9% of jumpers in the 2nd half to only 10.5% in the first half.
  • Georgetown also posted its highest assist rate so far this year at 84.6%. Anecdotally, I thought that Georgetown's ball movement looked much better in the second half (more drives, catch & shoots, post-up opportunities), so I think this suggests that the team is starting to gel.

Adjusted 3-pt Makes

This doesn't account for shot selection, but can help to calm down everyone's emotional swings by trying to adjust for volatility. A positive number indicates that the expected points were greater than the realized points. For players w/ 25+ attempts, shooting percentages are from this season and if not shooting percentages for each player are from the 2012-2013 season when available. Otherwise, the team's 3-pt percentage for the 2013-2014 season is used in the calculation for each player.
