Peanut Gallery: Western Carolina Catamounts vs. Georgetown Hoyas

What some Hoyas are thinkin' about the Hoyas.

View from the DJ Booth - A Musical Perspective from lordnick:

"Losing my Religion" would be an easy pick right now, as the Big East implodes. It'd also be the exact opposite of correct. The Catholic schools are bolting the league. We're GAINING our religion. Well, regardless, a song by that title isn't even an REM b-side. And besides. This isn't a moment of despair. It's one of triumph.

Think about direction.

Wow what an eventful week it's been. I just got done taking my last of 3 written exams, Josh Hamilton signed with the most absolutely horrid franchise in major league baseball, oh and did anyone see that bit about Georgetown and 6 other schools agreeing to leave the Big East? I'd heard a little bit about it, but wasn't sure any of you got the notice. Well after all that, we still get to play basketball this weekend, yipee! Western Carolina huh? I would say these guys are a better opponent than Longwood, but a team of 5 monkeys on cocaine might have been better than Longwood, so I wouldn't be saying much. They come from the Southern Conference, the home of The Team Which Shall Not Be Named, so they might actually be kinda good. I'm hoping for a game much like Longwood, though. It would be ideal if Mikael picked up 3 fouls in the first 4 minutes so we got to see a lot of Moses. By the way, did y'all see Moses on Monday night? He actually looked like he was meant to be out there! Anyway, we haven't had such a great recent history in games I've attended (Tennessee, Towson), so maybe the boys will break the streak tomorrow at the ungodly hour of noon (ON A SATURDAY AGAIN). Come early, be loud, wear gray. Hoya Saxa!

We will now pause the sinking of this ship to bring you a basketball game.

Today, we play WC. I am more nervous than I normally would be because the team's focus might be elsewhere. The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is today. Again, I will be recording the game (and likely not watching it later) because I am going into the city to take part in a holiday tradition. We spend the morning walking around the old neighborhood downtown. We do things like spend money on overpriced holiday nonsense at Dean and Deluca (hello, cured meats). The end reward is eating and drinking my face off at one of our old favorites in the 'hood. It is a long day that ends on a relaxing note.

The Hoyas need to come out and take out some aggression on this team. Again, I am more nervous than I should be, but not really that nervous. I don't need to check my phone in a store and deal with being up by 3 with 5 to go.

Nervous Level: Low

The Line: Georgetown -17.5

Tricky tricky! The Catamounts are clearly not in the same league as Georgetown (AT LEAST NOT YET ANYWAY GET IT?) but they aren't terrible either. I hate giving 17.5 points to anyone Georgetown plays but my thinking here is that the Hoyas limit WCU to around 45 points. Can the Hoyas score 63 or more? You betcha!

The pick is Georgetown -17.5. Final score Hoyas 72 - Catamounts 48.

Casual Hoya is 6-1 ATS this season.
Overall 61-36-1.
