Hoyas Bend But Do Not Break: Chris Wright's Season High 26 Carries Georgetown over South Florida

The Hoyas got back to their winning ways by scraping out a tough win over a pesky South Florida team. Chris Wright put the team on his back once again and made sure Georgetown would secure their 10th conference win. Both teams got out of the gate slowly, shooting a combined 0-8 to start the game. It was USF that found their stride first. The Bulls pounded the offensive glass and got numerous second chances allowing them to lead by as many as 7 in the first half.

Georgetown used its efficient FG% to crawl back into the lead in the closing seconds of the first half. The Hoyas looked like they would pull away for good on several occasions in the second half, but the plucky bulls would not go away. Georgetown could only push the lead to double digits on one occasion. Augustus Gilchrist kept the Bulls within striking distance through out. USF was able to pull within 4 on several occasions down the stretch, but Chris Wright sealed the win with 6 straight FTs in the final minute of the game.

Georgetown overcame their deficit on the boards and a sub par game from Austin Freeman with 51% shooting from the field and heady play by Chris Wright. Chris scored 14 of his 26 points in the second half to secure a win in a game that the Hoyas could not afford to lose. The Hoyas used their poise to execute down the stretch in another close game on the road. The Hoyas maintain their position at 3rd in the Big East with ND and second place within striking distance and a mass of contenders nipping at their heels.

Georgetown returns to DC for a 2 game home stand beginning with the defensive minded Bearcats who are fighting to make the NCAAs.
