View from the Student Section - A Perspective from Campus:
It feels like I'll be the only one going to this game, but really I may be. To be sure, I'll be the only one at the Memphis game, but we'll get to that later. If you go by years past, American should be better than Howard, but this year Jeff Jones' squad doesn't really have a snowball's chance in hell at making the NCAA Tournament. Because of this, Georgetown must win this game. We've seen in the twitterverse that Georgetown players are trying to psychologically make sure that this isn't a repeat of the close game against Howard. I've got one more final on Tuesday. Don't really feel like studying for it now, but it's gonna be a beast. Who cares though, let's just beat the living snot out of American and Hollis Thompson's former teammate Tony Wroblicky. Boom knowledge drop. Casually. Basketball >>> school.
View from the Court Side Seats - A Perspective from OldHoya:
OldHoya is nothing if not relentlessly positive about his Hoyas but let's cut to the chase - that Howard game stunk. It's a full week ago and there's no doubt that Coach has demanded that it be a one-time fluke in an otherwise excellent preseason. And that "easy" phase is rapidly coming to an end.
American isn't the strong team it's been over the past few years but as we just saw, local matchups are brutal and this qualifies as the biggest game in American's preseason. Georgetown should be focused and has to come out as the early aggressor. More importantly, though, is not letting up on the gas. OldHoya has full faith that that was the message the last week in practice and looks forward to seeing the aggression in the early afternoon.
One final note - the holiday season is upon us and that's often used as an excuse for students not being at games. Friends, none other than Ted Leonsis has provided you with a personal invitation to fill the gym - it's time to support your team and cheer them to victory.
View from the Enemy- A Perspective from our Sleeping With The Enemy Interview:
I can't believe I'm typing these words, but I actually think American has a shot. We're not going to win the battle of the boards, but Hinkle always gets to the foul line (9.5 free throw attempts per game) and Wroblicky has the size to keep Sims in check. What we lack in athleticism we've made up for in smart play and defensive willpower, and if we can keep it up I think we'll stay within single digits. Georgetown 72, American 63.
JahidiLikesPie Nervous Level: | ELEVATED |
Another December game that I won't be able to attend. The good news is they now sell Stella Talls on Metro North. This will serve as a reminder of one of the few verizon pleasures, until I can visit the Green Turtle stand in January. Back to the game, which is frightening me, by the way. The hoyas stumbled through that game last week and won it late in the second half. These games during finals are the worst. The Eagles appear to be a much better team than HU. My nerves are ELEVATED for this game.
I will be watching the game today, as it is being shown on SNY. I have to do my gift shopping today, but that can wait. I will be having bloody marys for this game. I made some casual ice cubes out of a homemade bloody mary mix and sriracha sauce. This will be the only relaxing part of my day, as my wife stands over me and barks her list at me.
I wished I had more disdain for this school. Everything about AU is sort of BLAH. That is, of course, except the fact that they have Tenley Market. That place was great. I have fond memories of buying cases of 40s from that joint. The closest thing to disdain that I have is the fact that they try to pass that gym off as a concert venue. I made the mistake of seeing a show there and discovering that the acoustics are horrible there. $150 wasted. There, I hate the school. Kill 'em.

The Line: OFF.
Another game without a fucking spread? What is the point of living if you can't gamble on a damn Hoyas game? Thankfully this will be the last game where I have to play make-believe and slap my own line on this game just to keep everyone entertained.
The pick is Georgetown -12.5. Final score Hoyas 74 - Eagles 61.
Casual Hoya is 5-4 ATS this season.
Last season: 18-14.
