When you say double-double and big man, how many times do you think of points and assists? Greg Monroe willed the Hoyas past the scrappy Providence Friars tonight, with 12 points and 12 assists. It was a big sigh of relief for the Hoya Faithful, as Georgetown finally beat a team they were supposed to beat.
For those that laughed at the 4.5 points Georgetown was afforded by the Vegas odds makers, hopefully you have ten inches of fresh snow outside to dunk you head in (try not to hit your head on the 20 inches of ice beneath). It was a close game throughout, as on many occasions, Providence was only one shot away from controlling the game. After Sharaud Curry brought the Friars within one point at the 9 minute mark of the second half, 14 of the remaining 25 Hoyas points were either scored or assisted by Greg Monroe. The Georgetown MVP discussion seemed to get a little more convoluted after this game, as Chris Wright led all Hoyas with 21 points while Austin Freeman failed to score more than 20 points for the first time in four games. Julian Vaughn also added a career high 19 points.
Georgetown also won its 300th Big East game, second only to the delinquents from Canada.
More to follow tomorrow. For those in the District, enjoy yet another snow day.
