HoyaBalla broke the news that Stephen Stepka will enroll at Georgetown and walk on to the basketball team next season. Stephen is local product from Fairfax, VA and received attention from Ivy and Patriot League schools. Below is an interview HoyaBalla was able to conduct with the new Hoya.
HB: You did have some DI interest, so why have you elected to walk on rather than play elsewhere?
Stephen: "Well I have always known like many others that Georgetown is a very prestigious school when it comes to basketball and academics. When the chance to come play here came up I felt it was an opportunity that could change my life. I've always kind of followed them and heard about their history."
HB: What will you study, and have you been on campus for summer sessions?
Stephen : "I have not decided yet but I think I may get into business. I have taken a tour of the campus but I am not apart of any summer sessions."
HB: Have you run pick up with the guys and what have been your first impressions of your fellow freshmen and the older guys?
Stephen: "I have been running pick up every now and then with the guys but because I have only been admitted and not taking classes thats all I can do. All the guys on the team seem to be really good guys. There is definitely a good chemistry that I get a sense of and I can't wait to be apart of it."
HB: First impressions of the coaching staff?
Stephen : "My first impression of all the coaches is that they are here to win. I can tell its going to take a lot of hard work and dedication but they all seem to be very supportive of the players and the program."
HB: Currently what is your size?
Stephen: I am 6'6 and about 195
HB: What do you hope to bring to the team, in practice, off the floor and on it?
Stephen: "Being a walk on I do not expect to be coming in and playing right away but somethings I feel I can bring to the team is hard work, putting forth great effort, and playing smart basketball. I am a pretty good shooter and have always been a good offensive player but I know I have plenty of things to work on and will fill the role I'm asked to fill."
Capital Hoops ranks Stepka as the 26th best senior in the DMV area.
Good talk.
