Two powerhouses meet again in New York as seniors Patrick Ewing of Georgetown and Chris Mullin of St. John's go head-to-head in what looks to be another Big East classic. St. John's is looking for revenge against Georgetown after the Hoyas embarrassed the then #1 ranked Redmen by 17 points in front of a sold-out Garden crowd two weeks ago in what has come to be known as The Sweater Game. The Hoyas look to defend their Big East Championship Banner and become the first team to win back-to-back titles in the newly formed Big East Conference.
That is what I would have written exactly 24 years ago. I have nothing to say now as the two teams meet in the first round of an expanded conference tournament as the number 12 and 13 seeds.
