Remember Maurice Walker? The center that tugged at the hearts of every Georgetown fan? The big, bad bruiser we desperately wanted to see don the Blue and Gray uniform? Well unfortunately for the Hoya Faithful, Jeremy Meyer is reporting that the new Big-man U, Pittsburgh, is the most likely destination for the 6'9'' big man out of Canada. It is interesting to note that Rivals does not even have Georgetown listed as a potential destination, and that it is a race between Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, St. John's, and Texas A&M.
Couple of things you can potentially (and probably incorrectly) assume from this news:
- Georgetown never offered Walker
- Georgetown focused its attention on Rakeem Christmas and Jordan Omogbehin
- Greg Monroe told JT3 that he plans not only to stay through his junior year, but will also enter the Society of Jesus after graduation in an attempt to stay at Georgetown FOREVER
On the bright side - Meyer is also reporting that Georgetown is one of three programs listed as finalists for Tony Mitchell, a 6'6'' slasher out of Texas. Mitchell is ranked as the 3rd best SF and 15th best player in the Class of 2010. Other schools in the mix are Missouri and North Texas. Yes, North Texas. I didn't think it was possible to come up with another school with Texas in its name.
Good talk.
