MASN Announces Schedule for Georgetown

Below is the press release from MASN sports regarding locally televised games.

MASN to Televise Nine Georgetown Basketball Games

Georgetown Hoops Tip Off on MASN November 28 vs. Layfayette

(Washington D.C.) - MASN, the local leader in live sports entertainment and the official network of the Georgetown Hoyas, will televise nine Georgetown men's basketball games this season. The first televised game will feature the Hoyas as they host Lafayette at the Verizon Center live at 12:00 p.m. on November 28th.

Throughout the season, MASN will televise Georgetown match-ups with local schools like Mount St. Mary's, Old Dominion and Rutgers - as well as nationally-ranked teams like Big East powerhouse Villanova.

Led by head coach John Thompson III, the Hoyas are ranked 20th in the Associated Press pre-season poll. Additionally, stand-out star and last season's Rookie of the Year Greg Monroe was recently named to Naismith's preseason watch list.

"MASN has been a tremendous partner to us over the past few years, expanding our presence throughout the region and helping us reach even more fans, alumni and potential recruits," said Thompson. "We are looking forward to playing on MASN again this season."

MASN is in its fourth year of a partnership with Georgetown University, which allows fans, parents, alumni and recruits to enjoy the Hoyas on 23 different cable and satellite systems throughout MASN's seven-state territory.

"Georgetown is one of the most storied basketball programs in the nation and a natural partner for the network," said MASN spokesman Todd Webster. "MASN is proud of our commitment to local, live sports action and our extensive NCAA basketball package."

The official cable network of George Mason University, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the Big South Conference, MASN features hundreds of NCAA basketball games in at least 13 different conferences each season. With over 80 Big East games, MASN is also home to the Big East Game of the Week. Additionally, MASN televises the annual BB&T Classic each December.

Georgetown to Play at Syracuse on Big Monday

ESPN has announced its schedule for Big Monday.  The complete list is below:

Jan. 4 -- Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
Jan. 11 -- Villanova at Louisville
Jan. 18 -- Syracuse at Notre Dame
Jan. 25 -- Georgetown at Syracuse
Feb. 1 -- Connecticut at Louisville
Feb. 8 -- Villanova at West Virginia
Feb. 15 -- Connecticut at Villanova
Feb. 22 -- West Virginia at Connecticut
Mar. 1 -- Georgetown at West Virginia

Guess it is clear who ESPN thinks is in the top tier of the Big East.

Villanova, West Virginia and Connecticut all make three appearances.
Georgetown, Syracuse and Lousiville all make two appearances.
Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Notre Dame all make one appearance.

Not suprisingly, Georgetown is one of two teams out of the nine appearing on the list NOT to have a home game.  And they are the only team to make at least two appearances without playing at home.  Louisville meanwhile plays both their Big Monday games at home.  So in sum, ESPN hates Georgetown and Washington, DC and Jesuits and Verizon and democracy.  Did I leave anything out?

Announcement from the Big East:

July 2, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University men's basketball team will host three conference opponents that appeared in the NCAA Tournament at Verizon Center and will play 12 games against teams that advanced to the postseason as the BIG EAST Conference announced league matchups for the 2009-10 season on Thursday afternoon.

The 2009-10 season will mark the third year the BIG EAST Conference features an 18-game league schedule. Each team will play 12 opponents once and three teams twice.

The Hoyas will play home-and-home series against 2009 NCAA Final Four participant Villanova (30-7) and NCAA Tournament participant Syracuse (28-10), as well as Rutgers.

Other home games will include appearances by NCAA Final Four participant Connecticut (31-4), NIT Semifinalist Notre Dame (21-15) and one by St. John's (16-18), which appeared in the College Basketball Invitational. The Hoyas will also host games against Cincinnati, Seton Hall and South Florida.

In addition to road games versus Villanova, Syracuse and Rutgers, the Blue & Gray will visit five other teams that played in the postseason last year - Louisville (NCAA, 31-6), Marquette (NCAA, 25-10), Pittsburgh (NCAA, 31-5), West Virginia (NCAA, 23-12) and Providence (NIT, 19-14) - as well as a visit to DePaul

Georgetown's 2009-10 BIG EAST Conference Opponents
Home: Cincinnati, Connecticut, Notre Dame, Rutgers, St. John's, Seton Hall, USF, Syracuse, Villanova
Away: DePaul, Louisville, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rutgers, Syracuse, Villanova, West Virginia

At 1st glance it seems that the Hoyas have a relatively easy home schedule and a tough away schedule.

Let the predictions commence!

Hoyas to play at Tulane Next Season

20080215__20080215_c05_sp15nba1_p2_medium

via extras.mnginteractive.com

Casual Hoya has learned that the Hoyas will travel to New Orleans to play at Tulane next season.  The game is apparently being scheduled to fulfill a promise to Greg Monroe/Monroe's connections to play a game in his home city (note: Monroe is from Gretna, about 15 minutes away from New Orleans), though it is unclear whether this game was promised to Monroe prior to his signing at Georgetown or during this offseason to help persuade him to stick around.

The Green Wave is an improving squad and went 14-17 (8-10) in the Conference USA last season.  Former Maryland assistant Dave Dickerson is entering his 5th year as the head coach.

A firm date for the game has not been set at this time, but a weekend in mid-November is being discussed.  The game will be played either at Tulane's Fogelman Arena (on campus, similar to McDonough) or at the New Orleans Arena.

Laissez les bon temps roulez.
