The Morning After: Georgetown Defense Shuts Down Connecticut
Georgetown vs. Connecticut: Hoyas smother Huskies in 58-44 win - The Washington Post
Although Georgetown finished with a flourish, the game got off to a rocky start for the hosts. The Hoyas trailed at the second television timeout for the fifth time in the past seven games, 13-9. Thompson called a timeout and lambasted his players. Thompson said he could not recall what exactly he said. Clark had no trouble remembering, though. "Play harder," the senior captain said jokingly.

After Ryan Boatwright (four assists) found Drummond for an alley oop from six feet with 17:30 left in the first half, Coach Thompson called a timeout and had some stern words. "?'Let's not do this,'?" Thompson said he told his players, only more emphatically.
Georgetown 58, UConn 44 - Quotes - GUHoyas.com
Georgetown Men's Head Basketball Coach John Thompson III On Hollis Thompson's confidence... I thought this was one of the better games Hollis has played, because he did so many things. I look at the stat sheet and he had 18 (points) and nine (rebounds), but he was key in that zone defense. He was always there on the catch, he was attentive and not only on the steals, but being there so they didn't get shots and supporting and helping down on Drummond when the ball was on the weakside. This was the antithesis of the Pittsburgh where I thought he was floating, he wasn't floating today he was active in every part of the game.

"In both of those areas we were awful," Thompson said of the rebounding disparity and sporadic effort at the defensive end. "They got everything that they wanted. And when they didn’t, they got the rebound."
Dixon hasn't panicked, pushes more
"We didn't let them push us around," Pitt forward Lamar Patterson said after turning in a strong performance with 18 points and seven assists. "We held our ground."
The Morning After: Mike Rice Upset That His Strategy to Foul Led to Fouls
Rutgers falls to No. 10 Georgetown, 52-50, as Mike Rice questions two foul calls in final two minutes | NJ.com
"We’re an aggressive team," Rice said. "I guess we’ll have to learn how to play with more toughness in the paint and to finish better. We’re an attack team, so again — I didn’t mind (most of the calls). Again, I could be completely wrong. I’d like to go and look at it before I criticize."
Porter’s big shots save No. 10 Georgetown from becoming Rutgers’ third top-10 victim, 52-50 - The Washington Post
"There were some bizarre plays, some bizarre whistles," Rice said. "Before I get into it, I’d like to look on replay to see if they were the correct call. Because again, we do foul. We did play a lot without a purpose as far as our positioning and playing with our hands instead of our feet and our bodies. But it was interesting the last two minutes."
The Morning After: Clark Shines Despite DePaul's Free Throw Defense
No. 10 Georgetown beats DePaul 83-75 - Houston Chronicle
"I think we have versatile pieces. Obviously a lot of the duty did fall on Jason today. I thought he did, for the most part, a pretty good job but he also had some help," Hoyas coach John Thompson III said. "It was a difficult game for him in that he had to deal with their press and pressure most of the time, but also he was clearly in a groove and the ball was going in. I thought he played well, despite those foul shots."
Georgetown vs. DePaul: Jason Clark helps Hoyas pick up another Big East road win - The Washington Post
Including Tuesday’s effort, the Hoyas are shooting 61 percent from the free throw line over the past six games. "It does kind of get to you," said Clark after he was asked if the team’s free throw struggles had become psychological. "We just have to get into the gym more and shoot your free throws and stay with your routine."

Georgetown head coach John Thompson III On Markel Starks: "He has--and this is not the trainer's definition or the doctor's but--something going on with his stomach. I found out after we got here. We were getting on the bus and he said he wasn't feeling well he's been throwing up and having stomach issues and then once he got here, he just said he felt too weak, told me he couldn't play."

The Morning After: Train Back on the Tracks
Hollis Thompson, Hoyas pull away in second half to beat St. John's, 69-49 - The Washington Post
"You lose a couple [and] you have to get out of it," Coach John Thompson III said. "You have to find a way to get out of that rut. Our guys realized the only way to get out of it is with hard work. And our effort today was good."
Hoya Prospectus: Recap: Georgetown 69, St. John's 49
A simplistic way to describe Georgetown's offensive game today is Hollis Thompson for three [5/9 3FG] and second-chance points [19 off. reb, 21 pts]. The Hoyas' offense failed to make shots in the first half, settling for too many mid-range jumpshots [3/11] rather than inside attempts [4/9]. The Hoyas turned this around in the second half, where they continually attacked the rim or followed their own miss [10/16] rather than hoisting 2FG jumpers [1/4].
The Morning After: Turnover Woes Continue
Self-inflicted: Cincinnati 68, Georgetown 64 | Over the Hilltop
The second especially irritating detail was that the program’s veterans were largely to blame for the late-game collapse. Seniors Clark and Henry Sims led the team in turnovers, committing nine between them, while Clark and, especially, Thompson simply disappeared with the game on the line. Also among those veterans facing criticism should be JTIII. The squad looked repeatedly out-of-sorts coming out of second-half timeouts, including one in the last minute with the game on the line. Ultimately, an 11-2 stretch "run" by the Bearcats over nearly six minutes spelled doom for the Hoyas.

The Hoyas tied a season high with 17 turnovers, and Cincinnati was more than happy to capitalize, scoring 20 points off Georgetown miscues. Freshman F Otto Porter had a huge miscue in the final minute, stepping on the line as the Hoyas attempted to tie the score.
Clark: Don't let losing linger - Georgetown Hoyas - CBSSports.com RapidReports
Senior G Jason Clark said it was important for the team to not let the feeling of losing permeate the squad. "We can’t fall into the rhythm of losing," he said. "We can’t start pointing fingers. We know what makes us good, and we’ve got to get back to those things."
The Morning After: Time to Start a New Win Streak
Georgetown vs. West Virginia: Hoyas’ 11-game winning streak ends in 74-62 loss - The Washington Post
The Hoyas never led beyond 4-0 but seven times tied the game. In each instance when Georgetown was trying to push ahead, though, the Mountaineers either stiffened defensively or sank a timely basket.
Kilicli says Hoyas pattern offense off WV - Georgetown Hoyas - CBSSports.com RapidReports
Mountaineers F Deniz Kilicli said the offense owes a debt to West Virginia. "Our motion offense is the grandfather of what they’re running," he said. "That’s why we know what they’re going to do. We’re really familiar with what’s going to come. That’s why we’ve been good [against Georgetown]."
Hoyas-WVU analysis: repeat performance
Starting with the home win over Providence, the Hoyas are now 11-of-49 (22.4 percent) from beyond the arc over the last three games. Going back to the Howard win on Dec. 10, the Hoyas are 30-for-103 (29.1 percent) from 3-point territory and that includes a 7-of-11 showing against Louisville.

Postgame Quotes - GUHoyas.com
Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III On Jason Clark's performance... Jason changed the plan. He decided to go with the plan. In the first half he was missing shots and he was down on himself because he was missing shots. From the very first possession of the second half you saw his focus change that I'm going to guard that guy. As he focused in on his defense his shot started to fall. His defense set the tone and his offense followed.
On playing the four freshmen in the second half... It just felt right. It wasn't rocket science, but once they got out there they fell into a groove and Hopkins's minutes were key.
On Hollis Thompson's end of the game performance... We say this in jest, but Hollis's confidence is always flowing and our confidence in him is always going. So we run a play to get him a shot and it goes in and then his teammates are trying to get him shots. That's what being an understanding team is all about...We did a good job as a group of going back to him and getting him the ball and more important he came through.
