Georgetown Recruiting DeAndre Daniels, Big Man Now Eligible to Play in 2010
Forget our 2011 woes, Scout is reporting that Georgetown is among a handful of schools in contact with DeAndre Daniels, a former Texas-bound big man who decommitted on Monday. According to Scout:
Daniels decommitted from Texas and since has gotten interest from USC, UCLA, Washington, UNLV, St. John's, Kentucky, Georgetown, Memphis and Gonzaga.
Daniels was ranked as the 10th best player in the Class of 2011 but is eligible to play this upcoming season. Nation of Blue states:
Daniels is really a 2010 kid, but he missed a significant amount of school as a sophomore while he and his father cared for his sick grandfather. While Daniels' dad work, Daniels took care of his grandfather, who had cancer, so he missed like a semester of school and then didn't play basketball as a junior. That's the way I understand the situation went.
So because of that hardship, Daniels has been classified as a junior when really he is a senior in age. They were awaiting a waiver to grant an extra year of athletic eligibility, but while they've waited, Daniels has taken lots of summer and night classes, and has become eligible to be a part of the 2010 class.
Georgetown has one scholarship open this year due to Greg Monroe's departure to the NBA. Don't get your hopes up though, looks like Kentucky and Calipari are all over the big man.
Sitting Down With Class of 2011 Big Man Derrell Robertson
Derrell Robertson, a 6'10'', 235lb big man from Mississippi recently sat down with Nolan from Cutting Down Nets. Robertson did not get much attention until this summer and has already been labeled a sleeper recruit in the Class of 2011.
Last week we went over a list of big men Georgetown was recruiting. Since then, both Johnny O'Bryant and and Desmond Hubert have cut the Hoyas from their lists. [Insert your own frantic cry about seeing some progress in the Class of 2011 here].

2012 Georgetown Prospect Andre Drummond May Play in 2011
Georgetown might be getting a recruiting break? You cannot be serious... Andre Drummond, the top player in the Class of 2012 might become one of the top players in the Class of 2011 according to the Hartford Courant. The paper reports:
Drummond, from Middletown, was at Capital Prep in Hartford before transferring to St. Thomas More in Montville and repeating a grade. He became the first sophomore to play for the postgrad team at More in coach Jere Quinn's 32 years, averaging 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Now, with the NCAA having implemented a rule that calls for incoming college freshman to complete all of their core courses and graduate in eight semesters in order to gain eligibility, Drummond has to consider reclassifying yet again. Widely considered the top player in the 2012 class -- and projected by some to be the top pick in the 2013 NBA draft -- Drummond might end up being part of the 2011 class, which could put him on a college campus next year.
Drummond has long stated that he is focusing on his game first, and recruiting afterwards. This might change as his signing timeline will be expedited if he enrolls in college in 2011.

Sitting Down With Bishop Daniels, A Guard From The Class of 2011
In days prior, we went over an exhaustive list of the big men that Georgetown is looking at in the Class of 2011. Now we turn our focus on the other positions. One player in particular stand outs: Bishop Daniels, a 6'2'' guard out of Raleigh, NC. Daniels is ranked as the 112th best prospect in the Class of 2011 by Rivals but his stock is quickly rising. ESPN had the following to say about the guard:
Daniels is a bouncy combo guard who is equally as comfortable coming off screens or creating his very own scoring opportunities. His shooting range is limitless and when he is hot defenders beware. Has exceptional handles and keeps the ball out in front giving him the ability to get anywhere with his excessive quickness and athletic burst. Defensively Daniels has the foot speed to guard a top notch point guard or a quick ball-handling two.

Johnny O'Bryant "Trims" List - Georgetown, Kentucky, and Kansas Knocked Off
Class of 2011 PF Johnny O'Bryant has trimmed changed his list of schools, according to Rivals. O'Bryant, who was previously quoted as considering Georgetown, Mississippi, Mississippi State, LSU, Georgia Tech, Kansas and Kentucky, is now listing Maryland, Miami, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Alabama and LSU as possible suitors.
Yes, O'Bryant trimmed three schools from his list - Georgetown, Kentucky and Kansas, and added three more - Maryland, Alabama and Miami. Don't understand the logic, but then again, I'm not a 17-year old basketball star.
As a Georgetown fan, this is certainly disappointing but not surprising. O'Bryant was a long-shot to begin with and will likely end up being a one-and-done player. We all hoped new assistant coach Robert Kirby's Mississippi ties could get us into the party but looks like it was not enough.
On the bright side, O'Bryant added two schools, Maryland and Miami, that are also pursuing local big man Mikael Hopkins, who Georgetown has extended an offer to as well.
UPDATE: In a world where news travels in 140 characters or less, who would ever have thought there would be conflicting reports?
- 5:00pm - KYSportsRadio is reporting that O'Bryant did indeed trim his list to four, but doesn't report which schools O'Bryant selected.
- 6:00pm - TheRecruitScoop reports that O'Bryant's list included Georgetown.
- 6:05pm TheRecruitScoop is now confirming his list does not include Georgetown.
Sitting Down with Class of 2011 Guard Jabril Trawick
Last week we introduced you to Jabril Trawick, a 6'6'' guard from the mean streets of Philly, where he was born and raised while spending most of his days on the playground, chillin' out, maxin' all cool. A good amount of hoopla followed after it was announced that we had offered a scholarship to the gent, mainly because we had never heard of him or weren't enamored by the other schools recruiting the guard.
Nolan from CuttingDownNets was able to interview Trawick and provide some much needed insight into the player no one knows anything about.
