National Championship: Who You Got?
The 2011 College Hoops season ends tonight.
This is it! Tonight is the 2011 NCAA Tournament National Championship, the final night of a dramatic and absurd (men's) college hoops season. The Big East's own UConn Huskies, unranked to start the season, the 9th place finisher in the Big East, and currently riding an insane 10 game winning streak in a span of 21 days take on the Butler Bulldogs, the Horizon League's darlings, appearing in an unfathomable second straight national championship game. Jim Calhoun, possibly coaching in his last game, against the young wizard Brad Stevens. Kemba Walker, the clear Big East Player of the Year to everyone except those who actually voted for the award, against the smart hustle of Butler's Shelvin Mack. UConn's Alex Oriakhi and Charles Okwandu against the white shadows Matt Howard and Andrew Smith. UConn's fearsome freshmen Jeremy Lamb, Shabazz Napier and Roscoe Smith against Butler's senior leadership of Howard, Shawn Vanzant and Zach Hahn.
With so much drama in the LBC I'm going to kick back tonight, whip out some nice chips and salsa, and hope for a good game that comes down to the final buzzer. My lean is towards the underdog Bulldogs though I can certainly respect those whose Big East loyalty weds them to UConn.
Who you got?
Final Four Open Thread: Death To UConn?
Happier times.
Well well well. Here we are, the 2011 NCAA Tournament Final Four, the last weekend of the college basketball season. Though my blue and gray Tumi suitcase lies empty in my closet and not on the floor of a casual hotel room in Houston, we are nonetheless presented with a couple of very intriguing games this evening.

President Barack Obama Talks Georgetown Hoops At McDonough Gymnasium

Obama at McDonough. Yes, we promise that's him.
As you all know by now President Barack Obama was on campus today to discuss "Energy Security." But he addressed the real important issues of the day in his opening remarks. Here are a few highlights:
"I want to start with a difficult subject," Obama said as he looked toward JT3. "The Hoyas had a tough loss, Coach. "I love Coach Thompson. I love his dad and the great tradition that they've had," Obama continued. "And it turned out VCU was pretty good. I had Georgetown winning that game in my bracket, so we're all hurting here. That's what next year is for."
Obama is now talking about the boring Energy stuff, so while he wraps up feel free to check out some casual documentation from our friends at the Georgetown Voice here.

Barack Obama To Give Speech At Georgetown On Wednesday
The press release from the White House claims the speech will take place in McDonough Gymnasium and the theme will be something called "energy security." Unclear if Obama will be discussing more important issues such as the following:
How To Shoot
How To Make Baskets
How To Score Points
Ball Handling
How To Rebound in The 21st Century
Recruiting
How To Not Lose In The 1st Round of The NCAA Tournament
I'm fine, really.

Redemption Sunday: Does VCU Making The Final Four Make You Feel Better About Georgetown?
Maybe the Hoyas never had a chance.
An NCAA Tournament filled with upsets reached its zenith of crazy yesterday afternoon when the VCU Rams beat the Kansas Jayhawks to reach next weekend's Final Four in Houston. For Georgetown fans, VCU's win helped heal the wounds that were still fresh from a then-embarrassing eighteen point loss to an 11 seed play-in team just last Friday. And today, less than two weeks later, suddenly things don't seem so bad in Hoya Land.

Georgetown Lady Hoyas v. UConn Lady Huskies: Sweet Sixteen Open Thread
The Georgetown Lady Hoyas are playing today for the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, and all that stands in the way is the dreaded UConn Lady Huskies. If you can't be in Philadelphia for the game, turn on ESPN at noon and enjoy the way these casual ladies play the game, you might find it quite refreshing.
"We're David. UConn's Goliath. We want to take them out," McNutt said.
Go get 'em.

What's the Sweet Sixteen without a little Sugar? via www.suffolknewsherald.com
The Georgetown Lady Hoyas, led by Sugar Rodgers' 34 points and 9 rebounds, stormed into the Sweet Sixteen of the 2011 Women's NCAA Tournament with a dominant 79-57 win over the Maryland Terrapins. The Hoyas shelled the Terrapins behind a stifling defensive effort and an offensive onslaught that saw Georgetown hit a VCU-like 13 three pointers.
