The Morning After: Greg Monroe Quotes, Links and Photos

Hooray for Greg Monroe.  Hooray for the Detroit Pistons.  And hooray for Georgetown fans.  Here is what the world is saying about Monroe and Detroit's 7th pick in the 2010 draft.

On a side note, just when I thought my Knicks could not disappoint me anymore, they go out and draft Andy Rautins.  Andy freckin Rautins, the Knicks should just merge with Ringling Brothers already.  Chris Duhon and Andy Rautins in the same backcourt sounds like the lineup of a bottom tier team from the Andorran Basketball League.  Alas, I digress, this post is about Greg Monroe, not the most pathetic franchise in the history of professional sports.

Greg Monroe Drafted 7th by the Detroit Pistons

A great night for Greg Monroe, a great night for Georgetown University, and a great night for the Detroit Pistons.  That's how I see Detroit selecting Monroe with the 7th pick in tonight's NBA Draft.  For Monroe, a lifelong dream is being fulfilled.  For Georgetown, John Thompson III is proving that he can develop big men and get them drafted in the top of the first round on a consistent basis.  For the Pistons, they get one of the top 5 prospects in this draft at #7.

Monroe goes to a team that currently employs Charlie Villanueva, Ben Wallace, Jason Maxiell, Jonas Jerebko, and Chris Wilcox at the power forward and center positions.  In other words, Monroe will start immediately.  Like tomorrow.  He will contribute from the start and be able to stretch defenses, allowing Rip Hamilton to run off thousands of screens and Ben Gordon to slash like Ben Gordon wants to slash.

More thoughts about Monroe and the Pistons after The Jump.

MonroeWatch 2K10 - Where Will Greg Monroe Go?

The NBA Draft is finally upon us, and for the fourth year in a row, Georgetown has a big man primed for a draft day selection.  In the past three years, Georgetown has had four players selected in the NBA Draft, more than any other Big East team. And with Greg Monroe set to be a lottery pick later this evening, that trend will continue on to next year, when Austin Freeman and Chris Wright go #1 and #2 in the 2011 NBA Draft after leading the Hoyas to a National Championship and set the record for longest Wimbledon match in the world.

Judging by the below reports, no one has any idea where Greg Monroe will land.  He has been projected as high at #3 to the Nets and as low as #9 to the Jazz, which some have argued will be the best match based on his skill set.  Regardless, Monroe seems content in just being drafted, knowing he is a mere 12 hours away from a guaranteed million dollar payday.

MonroeWatch2K10: Monroe to Golden State Warriors in Latest ESPN Mock Draft

Per ESPN's latest super top-secret VIP confidential communist Insider Mock Draft:

(Monroe's previous position: No. 5 to Sacramento)

Analysis: The Warriors are among the most difficult teams in the draft to predict right now. Over the course of the past week, I've heard a number of players were atop their list, including DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe, Al-Farouq Aminu, Xavier Henry, Ekpe Udoh, Patrick Patterson ... I could go on.

To me, this is where the gamesmanship really starts. The Warriors could go in almost any direction. The team itself is a bit of a mess. We're not sure who's going to own the team in a month, the coaching situation is up in the air, players are on the trading block and agents who've had their players work out for Golden State don't particularly want their guys to end up there.

For weeks, the word I've been getting is Cousins is the guy. If he's off the board, the next closest consensus among sources (and I use the word consensus loosely) is Monroe. The Warriors need more size, and Monroe's high basketball IQ and skill level should be a nice fit in Golden State.

BUT WHERE CAN I GET A VUVUZELA

MonroeWatch2K10: Monroe Heading Back to Sacramento for 2nd Workout

According to the Sacramento Bee, Monroe will be working out for the Kings for a second time.

The Kings will take a second look at two of the top big men available in this year's NBA draft. Georgetown sophomore Greg Monroe and Marshall freshman Hassan Whiteside will return to Sacramento on Saturday for a second round of workouts for the Kings.

The Kings hold the No. 5 pick and could reach to use it on Monroe, but could also be looking at trading down, which would likely explain why they're also looking at Whiteside.

No word on how the Kings feel about BIG EAST EXPANSION, THE 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP, THE OIL SPILL IN THE GULF, or JERSEY SHORE
