With two open scholarships to fill and one possibly going to center/forward Trey Mourning, John Thompson III and the staff have turned its attention to unsigned Class of 2014 point guard Larry Austin. Austin had initially committed to Tennessee but reopened his recruitment after former Vols head coach Cuonzo Martin left for Cal.

Austin is a 4-star point guard out of Lanphier High School in Illinois, who undoubtedly Hoyas assistant Tavaras Hardy is familiar with from his days coaching at Northwestern. The Hoyas are thin at the point guard spot this season with projected starter D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera being more of a combo guard and freshman Tre Campbell as his backup.
