Just an observation from 48hrs that has passed by...
My fellow casual members,
Yes it was a tough loss (so therefore no need to beat a dead horse about the game), however no one (from what I've seen on CH) has talked about was the 'defensive adjustments' made by JT3. The game was a very hard pill to swallow, but as we know was that, the only individual who was the total difference maker was Kris Joseph who had a career night.
As we know he did his damage from the perimeter, and yes the 2-3 and Man-to-Man was effective (for the most part), but I was shocked to see JT3 didn't at least use the 3-2 or 1-3-1 zone against the Orange. The Orange didn't have an 'effective' inside game (even though Melo had a few dunks via penetration and certain lapses in responsibility). So therefore we can say it was more of a non-factor.
We as fans understand is that each zone has a weakness, but in the aspect of strategy, I believed that these particular looks (3-2 & 1-3-1 matching/trapping zone) would've made Joseph kick out the ball to another cold shooting player from the perimeter. Waiters/Jardine/Triche were pretty much out of the mix from the outside.
What is your take on this....
Stay Casual, my friends.

Saw a couple possessions of something between 2-3 and 3-2
In the second half. Had Whit playing up towards to the top a little on Joseph when the ball swung to the opposite side, to prevent the swing/skip.
I really don’t know why there’s been so much criticism of the coaching decisions on defense. It was an outstanding defensive effort on one of the top offensive teams in the country. The final shot hurts, and a lot, but the last five minutes of regulation were defensively spectacular at a crucial moment and in the GD Carrier Dome. If we can play D like that on a neutral floor (and I think we can), we’re going to have a couple of nice runs in the BET and NCAAs.
FWIW, after the Pitt game, our defense got called out by several different websites, media sources, etc. After the last three, we’ve shot all the way up to #6 in Ken Pomeroy’s defensive ratings. The last time we were ranked that high defensively was ’08 (The next few closest in JTIII era: 20 in 2007, 22 in 2009.)

Don't get me wrong
I wasn’t being too critical of the schemes, just wishing that JT3 would throw at them something different, b/c Joseph was the only effective player on the floor for the Orange. Again the 2-3 and Man were effective, just a scheme perhaps that was overlooked in the heat of battle.
In regards to the 2nd half, I do remember somewhat of a 3-2 showing but it either referred back to a 2-3 or Man to Man match up.
TBH, I haven't seen a college team go 1-3-1 in a long time
Plus, I doubt they practice it. It was a simple miscommunication. Additionally, 3-2 leaves you REALLY vulnerable down low, to the point that a few dunks becomes a lot. I’m more comfortable doing what we’ve practiced and trusting it to work.
