Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose: 2011 Georgetown Hoyas Football Preview

The Georgetown Football Hoyas begin another illustrious campaign on September 3, 2011 when they face off against Davidson in what we here at THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON are dubbing "The Redemption Bowl".  Since Stephen Curry went bananas against the Hoyas in the second half of the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008, things haven't been rosy in post-season play for the men's basketball team.  The basketball team will have to rely on their oft-forgotten little brothers on the football team to reverse the Curse of Curry.

You may remember the Hoyas starting out like a house on fire last year, winning three of their first four games and threatening to crack the Top 25.  Unfortunately, they lost their next six before a thrilling 14-7 victory over Marist to end the season.  The Hoyas return the core of their 2010 team, including standout defensive end Andrew Schaetzke and cornerback Jayah Kaisamba.

Hoya Football Schedule and Predictions after The Jump:

Star-divide

Below is the schedule for the 2011 season, including our own predictions for the outcomes of games. As usual, you should take these predictions as gospel and figure out a way to profit from them.  In these trying economic times, the only sure bet is Casual Hoya sports predictions.

September 3 - Davidson. The Hoyas start the season off with a resounding 13-7 victory, avenging 2008.

September 10 - Lafayette. The Hoyas upset the Leopards 7-6 in a hard fought, NFC North style battle.

September 17 - @Yale. If your school is part of our fight song, you are losing to us. 24-13 WIN

September 24 - @Marist. Marist? More like EMBARRASSED. 17-7 WIN

October 1 - @Bucknell. Bucknell? More like SUCKnell. 13-3 WIN

October 8 - @Wagner. Wagner? More like GAGner. 21-13 WIN

October 15 - Howard. 20-7 Hoyas in another resplendent rendition of the Derby in the District

October 22 - Colgate. If your school is named after a toothpaste, not happening. Hoyas 27, Toothpastes 10

October 29 - @Holy Cross. Also part of our fight song, also losers this year. 16-7 WIN

November 5 - Fordham. Fordham? More like BOREDOM. 28-6 WIN

November 12 - @Lehigh. With a trip to the BCS Championship on the line, the Hoyas outlast Lehigh 10-7.

January 9 - BCS Championship in New Orleans. The Hoyas outgun Oklahoma 49-48 to win it all.

Simple as that folks, the Georgetown Hoyas will win the BCS Championship this year.

Don’t sleep on Wagner.

I’ve already circled that one on my calendar.

Casually.

I know this is 3/4 joking

But I’m still thrilled to see some football content on the GLOBAL PHENOMENON. They’d be a surprisingly good draw if they turned into a small school powerhouse.

had some nice coverage last season before rose bowl dreams were dashed.

That's true

The 118(!)-post live-blog of the Lafayette game was a classic.

#cynical

actual patriot league preseason poll:

1. Lehigh, 58 points (8 first-place votes)

2. Colgate, 55 (6 first-place votes)

3. Holy Cross, 38

4. Lafayette, 36

5. Georgetown, 19

6. Bucknell, 16

hey at least we weren’t picked last.

actual prediction 4-7 with wins over Davidson, Marist, Wagner, and Bucknell.

At least someone is realistic.

3-8. The only way we’re ever playing in Texas (new home of the FCS championship game) is if TCU gives us a mercy slot on their schedule.

49-48

I don’t want to do the math but my senses tell me that such a score seems statistically unlikely.

And please lets be more realistic with our commentary, we are going to end the season with a respectable win over Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl
