Rock Chalk Aloha! Georgetown To Face Kansas In First Round Of the 2011 Maui Invitational

Kansas. Awesome. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

The 2011 Maui Invitational will unveil its brackets today, and according to Gary Parrish your Georgetown Hoyas are set to take on the Kansas Jayhawks on November 21st.

The Tournament is one of the toughest early season events in the country, with a field that includes Duke facing Tennessee, Memphis against Michigan, and UCLA facing host Chaminade, among others.  For those interesting in making the short trip to Maui for the games, Georgetown has arranged travel packages.

The inevitable "Georgetown Gets Lei'd" headline will be saved until November.

I agree

Bring ’em on!

Wonder how the bracket will look. One would think they’d try and keep us and memphis on opposite sides of the bracket as well as memphis and tennessee. as both play memphis already.

So you could have:

Duke v. Tennessee
Kansas v. Georgetown

on one half and then

Memphis v. Michigan
UCLA v. Chaminade on the other

Going to be a tough tourney.

Parrish:

The Duke-Tennessee winner will play the Memphis-Michigan winner in one semifinal while the Kansas-Georgetown winner plays the UCLA-Chaminade winner in the other semifinal.

Casually.

Man that is rough lineup

I wish the Hoyas would’ve gotten the Vols instead (not to discredit the Vols), but with a new coach involved it would’ve taken some time for him to get established with his new team.

The frosh better be stoked!!!!

They’ve got a chance to notch three marquee wins over big-name programs before Thanksgiving. This should be huge for retention and recruiting.

Memphis – Michigan

UCLA – Cham.

Sucks cause if we can't get past Kansas in the first round

we’ll have to face Chaminade in the second round.

Which is worthless since it doesn’t count as they’re a D2 school.

Worse than worthless

The only way it doesn’t count is if we beat them.

analysis by espn talking heads

Every team in this field — even recent behemoths like Duke and Kansas — is facing new expectations, important personnel additions, or some mix of all three. …

Casually.

They added a “mainland” component to the tourney? When did that happen?

Never let facts get in the way of a good argument
