    is DSR

the better pg option for JT3 rather than KA, due to the fact I see KA being more of a point-forward more than anything else!

    i think that is right

york is blowing up right now – gtown needs to get in front of him quickly

    The question is...

does JT3 wants to go with another under 6’2" pg or does he want to go big with DSR, I think rebounding and better perimeter D is the recipe at the moment!

by Big Spoon on Apr 27, 2011 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions

    true

bigger question is do any of the above guards want to play at gtown. all have indicated some interested in the school but it is far from a done deal.

ill take any, including semaj christon

    DSR although listed taller

is said to be about 6-1. Both DSR and York are really shooting guards. The bigger question is will they develop the playmaking abilities to be able to run a team…

So with all the talent that we have coming in does anbody forsee us still playing 6 man ball?

    There shouldn't be any reason

for JT3 to just relying on 6 players to make things happen, he has to learn how to trust his players by letting them play, and not over-relying on his system!

by Big Spoon on Apr 27, 2011 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions

If Kyle wants to come here

We take him over everyone. A lot of experts from Coach Hurley, Adam Zagoria, and Nolan Shulman all say he is perfect for our system. He has played PG for Playaz and according to him that’s what he wants to play in college. Kid puts up numbers across the board, and is capable of getting a triple double on any night. Typical night for Kyle 14points 10boards 7 assists, a stat sheet stuffer in the words of my man Clark Kellog. More, and maybe most importantly, after watching him for about 2 minutes in a live situation you will just realize “he gets it”. He thinks the game faster than most people see it, is a cerebral player and understands what he needs to do to get the W…

He is a solid defender and has held players like Gilchrest, and Austin Rivers in check. To me he is priority number one, but as we all now we don’t pick the kids, the kids choose us. All three are talented and would be welcome additions

    DEPTH.............

My issue with GTown has been with the lack of depth coming off the bench!!! JT3 needs to play everybody in order to keep the harmony as well as keeping the opponents guessing.
I know this guys doesn’t sound like much but I’m going to throw his name out there one more time and then I’ll leave it alone. I’m only looking at what he could bring to the table as far as ball handling, 3 point shooting, and only for the 2011 season. Trinson White is a 6-4 175lbs SG, with promise, he doesn’t rate high on the ESPN 2011 prospects but neither did Jeff Green.

    Agreed

by Big Spoon on Apr 29, 2011 9:07 AM EDT up reply actions

    Kyle Anderson

    From Dave Telep at ESPN:

“Seton Hall does the best job at recruiting me,” Anderson said. “It’s short phone calls and (timely) when they come see me. Them and Georgetown do a great job. I speak to Coach [John] Thompson for three minutes and that’s it. Little things like that make it better.”

UCLA, Florida, St. John’s, Arizona and Xavier are also coming strong for Anderson. After reading this, they’d be wise to save minutes on their cell plans and more importantly, Anderson’s time on the phone. However, we’re particularly interested in seeing how schools handle him because of his unique abilities as a passer with size and vision. Would he pick a place that has an established point guard?

by yaboynyp on May 1, 2011 3:28 PM EDT reply actions

    Honestly

The Hoyas would be the best team for him due to the system of passing and back door cuts, especially for his size he could be so versatile and cause serious matches across the board, the question is would JT3 want to play more of a slower pace due to his size if he was to commit to the Hoyas?

Or pretty much play more of a high post offense and create open looks at the top of the key to shoot mid range to open 3’s with screens?

by Big Spoon on May 1, 2011 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions

    Brandon Bolden..

    From Rivals EYBL Dallas

Brandon Bolden (2012, Team Florida)- A promising prospect, Bolden is the prototypical wiry, long, athletic four-man with a developing skill game. If he applies himself in the weight room and is serious about his skill development, he will have a successful career at Georgetown.

and Osama Bin Laden is dead.. wow

by yaboynyp on May 1, 2011 11:07 PM EDT reply actions

    Not really

Supposedly has all the tools, but for whatever reason it hasn’t added up to production… He seems very fluid not mechanical like Roy was, is athletic, just hasn’t put up numbers. Could be the fact that in highschool bigs don’t get a lot of touches, for instance Rak Christmas averaged about 10 ppg last year and is a top 20 guy

by yaboynyp on May 1, 2011 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

    Tony Parker same event

Tony Parker (2012, Georgia Stars)- Parker is playing an aggressive brand of basketball as a scorer and rebounder. When he is focused and in attack mode, he is a productive and reliable big man. Since his game isn’t based on athleticism, Parker is best when he brings a physical and grinding mentality to the court.

by yaboynyp on May 1, 2011 11:26 PM EDT reply actions

    DSR same event

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (2012, Spiece)- Smith-Rivera continues to impress. He moves seamlessly between both guard positions, and has a fearlessness to his game. His command of the game and his physical attributes indicate that he will be playing productive basketball for years to come.

by yaboynyp on May 1, 2011 11:27 PM EDT reply actions

    Hammonds.. Roy's boy from Indiana

A.J. Hammons (2012, Spiece)- Hammonds has typically been that big guy that left you wanting more out of him. It looks like this is becoming less the case with him. He does need to play tougher on a consistent basis, but Hammonds now looks more comfortable asserting himself on the court and is becoming more productive. With his size and mobility, he has a high ceiling.

From where he came from last summer to now, and the fact that he’s prep’n this year, you just get the feeling that 1) Scouts really haven’t seen him and 2) He will be a rated higher at the end of the year based on the fact that there are not a lot of elite PG’s in the 2012 field

Do we get any love from Oak Hill, historically?

by Be(a)st of the Big East on May 9, 2011 2:10 AM EDT reply actions

    Nope

Basically it means we’re almost certainly out of the running for DSR.
Guess we focus on York and Semaj now.

Julian did attend Oak Hill, but we only got him after a transfer. Don’t know the last recruit we got directly from them. I know the last one we tried to get was Roscoe Smith. And I think you can tell by the way that recruitment went down and where he ended up why kids who go to oak hill don’t end up at Georgetown.

by hoyasincebirth on May 9, 2011 9:10 AM EDT up reply actions

    I think you are right

Also we were on DSR early before the Xavier commit, I would have thought if we were going to get him it would been right after the decommit. The longer it the recruitment streches, the less chance I think we have. Semaj has academic issues though right ?

by bunk moreland on May 9, 2011 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions

or what about the other pg

from Dematha BJ Anya (sp?), as option B for a pg if Semaj or DSR isn’t coming this way, also is the Hoyas still in contention with Anderson as well?

by Big Spoon on May 9, 2011 10:29 AM EDT reply actions

    Anya

is the roly-poly 6’"7" center. James Robinson is roly-poly PG from DeMatha.
Would rather have Trawick try to play point than James Robinson.

by bunk moreland on May 9, 2011 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions

    oops never mind

the hoyas don’t need a oliver miller 2.0

by Big Spoon on May 9, 2011 12:39 PM EDT reply actions

    I dont mind

roly-poly big men. They usually do ok in college – Oliver Miller, Tractor Traylor; heck look at Sweetney. If Anya (2013) continues to develop I would not mind seeing him in Blue and Gray.

Frankly Adams even is a bit of the same, but with more muscle, less touch.

by bunk moreland on May 9, 2011 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions

    we don't need

to lose them from a bball scholarship (Big East) to a football scholarship (Patriot League), we need some muscle on the blocks.

also I wanted to correct myself I was thinking of Betancourt instead of Anya

by Big Spoon on May 9, 2011 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

    At this point

I would go all in on York. I prefered DSR but at this point that seems to be sailing and i too and wary of semaj’s academic issues. There are rumors that even with this prep year he might not qualify.

by hoyasincebirth on May 9, 2011 12:55 PM EDT reply actions

    Interesting fact

Semaj going to the same prep school in Conn as Andre Drummond… Semaj will get it together

by yaboynyp on May 9, 2011 12:58 PM EDT up reply actions

not over necessarily. York is a combo guard so if we can get anderson he can play the 2 if we don’t get anderson he can slide over and play point. We need a small guard even if we get anderson unless we want to exclusively play zone.

by hoyasincebirth on May 9, 2011 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

If he goes to Seton Hall

I’ll eat a Nigerians shoe after he’s walked 25 miles under the hot beating African sun in the summer time with no socks on… What recruits is he talking about that Seton Hall has?? lol Out of their seven recruited players for next year none are currently ranked on any recruiting database… none… If he wants to stay local he would have to have better options than Seton Hall….

by yaboynyp on May 9, 2011 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

    Seton Hall

is selling the backyard treatment to him, they obviously need to make some moves to become relevant at this point.

this offense (Prince-Town) for KAnderson is perfect for him to utilize, b/c he can be effective across the board, hopefully he’ll see it this way

Interesting story on Markel's recruitment from

    http://everymonthmarch.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/unc-recruit-values-spelling/

It reminds me of a story I was told about current Georgetown guard Markel Starks’ recruiting process. Starks was very highly recruited out of Georgetown Preparatory School, and one night he was attending a function with his coach where he spotted the head coach of one of the programs that was most aggressively recruiting him.

His coach said, "Go up and introduce yourself and say hello."

So he did. When he came back to his coach, he said, "That guy had no idea who I was." And, in that moment, Starks, who knew that John Thompson III knew very well who he was, had his mind made up about where he was going to school.

in response to the Duke recruiting letter to P.J Hairston that had T.J. or D.J. or something. Making a point about how you would think a contending school like Duke wouldn’t make that mistake.

Related the Duke story to one of Markel’s top choices head coach not even knowing who he was. Markel made his decision on the spot then because JT III actually knew who he was and interacted with him at the event.

    It depends

2 ways to look at this

He and his father came to a realization he can’t play PG full time at the collegiate level and are embracing the point forward role. or some dream school of his not currently on his list (UNC for possible example) wants to see him at the forward spot and is willing to do so for a dream school if it means an offer.

    Or it means nothing.

    Stupid recruiting.

Literally every single thing can be dissected and examined as either being a positive or negative indication. But a lot of it probably means nothing.

Dwaun Anderson will visit Drexel today, Wagner on Wednesday, Georgetown on Saturday. He will visit Seton Hall & Villanova, as well.

DSR versus Bolden twice this year

Nov 1. Oakhill and DSR goes to NC to play Bolden and Basketball R Us Qualtiy Education Academy (QEA). QEA returns the favor and plays at Oakhill on Feb 13. With the lockout dragging on, ESPN Ocho will be looking for content so I actually think one or two of these will be on TV

Locally, Oakhill also plays at Dematha against a TX school on Dec. 10

This is great, I’ve been wanting to see some video on Bolden since his recruitment. Also I hope DSR and Bolden play nice, I wouldn’t want either one to get hurt before they suit up for JT3 and the Hoya’s, no need for a feud. This should be the perfect time to get to know one another.

University of Louisville on Robert Upshaw

    White > Upshaw

Don’t blow it by making him feel he is not your first priority, call the kid up and tell him he is your priority and you want him to be the next star for cardinals

When you look at Upshaw’s list most of the schools are california ones anyway, seems like the kid wants to stay home – so don’t blow it with White!!

    .

    Upshaw’s final list is

UofL, Georgetown, Kansas St, and Fresno St. So not really west coast heavy. Plus I’d like to have a player we can refer to as Bob Upshaw. Sounds like an accountant. Boom already got a nickname for him!

    .

I thought I saw another Cali or Nevada school in there

But I still feel like White is the best option because we will have Gorgui for 4 years I think and he is really not an upgrade over Prive IMO, seems clumsy a little

However, we lose 2 guards/wings in Kuric and Smith plus Wayne might be gone after 2 seasons and I definitely think White is an upgrade over Nunez

I too would prefer White over Upshaw.

Upshaw does look a bit uncoordinated, and I don’t see him being better than Gorgui or much better than Price. But alas, both are top-50 guys and I would be pleased to have either; and by the way, I think Nunez has a great future here

-Fresno State is home for Upshaw but they currently have no commitments like Kansas State to entice a strong 2012 recruit class

    outside of hollis..

i feel this team has great chemistry. greg, tyler, and mikael are all really close. i feel like lubick, bowen, and jabril are generally liked by all. otto and moses keep more of a distance off the court. henry and jc have great chemistry with the freshman on the court, off it, theyre the seasoned vets, as strange as it is to admit.

    let me clarify though..

i get the feeling that there is a strong respect among the freshmen and sophomores for hollis’ talent. on the other hand, his arrogance and selfishness rubs some the wrong way

another note on chemistry, specifically regarding the offense.. greg and tyler both expressed frustration about JTIIIs offense, especially after tedious practices the week after midnight madness. still, after bitching for a bit, they defend the offense, and then tyler says something to the tune of “freeman and wright were the problem, NBA talent can thrive in this system”

    per rivals

White’s most recent offer came from Georgetown, The Hoyas were a finalist for five-star small forward T.J. Warren, but when he opted for North Carolina State, Georgetown turned its attention to White.

“Coach John Thompson and his staff from Georgetown came to my game on Friday,” said White. "I talked to Coach Thompson later that night on the phone and he offered me a scholarship. We couldn’t talk to each other in person at the game, but we had a nice talk on the phone afterwards.

“Georgetown, you know, they’re kind of late getting involved in my recruitment,” he added. "I’ve got a lot of great schools on my list that have been recruiting me for a long time, so that’s something I’ve got to consider. Georgetown wants me to come for a visit, which would be my last visit, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen.

    NERLENS-HELL YEAH !

Jarnell Stokes and Shaq Goodwin couldn’t even get shots off vs. Nerlens this summer. let’s wait a year and bring in Nerlens and Troy Williams. Then we got a shot at the Final 4 in 2014 !

    Maybe just maybe!!!!

Maybe Sims game today will lure Upshaw to the hilltop, seeing how the offense can run through the center postion. Maybe this was what he was wanting to see prior to signing.

But the Hoyas need a big

grabbing another SG/SF would pretty much waste away a scholarship, unless we as fans can start speculating that (insert any name) will be pretty much transferring to another school next year.

    Upshaw

He is deciding tomorrow. Idk what to think about louisville. They have no scholarships left, but pitino could always have something up his sleeve. K-State just signed a big man. So it could come down to us and fresno

I wouldn’t be either. He and his family have really played this recruitment close to the vest. There is really no leader here. I guess well find out tomorrow

I guess we could count K State scholarships.

I would have to guess that one or two scholarships remain. Secondly, K State picked up Adrian Diaz last year, he’s another 6-11 220lbs center.

    we do have bigs too

adams, moses, hopkins and bolden are either the class in front of upshaw or his class. So from a recruitng perspective you can be sure Louisville/K State will be pointing that out. Now I think Upshaw is only true 5 outside of moses, and probably has a better upside so I do want him slightly more than white.

by bunk moreland on Nov 13, 2011 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

    This is from K State

    Not that I’ve seen.

But I heard one of our problems right now is scholarships, as in, we don’t have many. I’d have to look at a roster, but we’re young. The other thing that’s out there is if you’re coming to KState, you better produce and quickly or you’ll be transferring. So when a kid looks at KSU and they aren’t a five star one and done they take that into consideration. And Frankly, if they are a one and done they would much rather go somewhere they can get their balls suckeled than go somewhere they’re going to have to work their ass off. It’s not like we have a rep of making any one position infinitely better. So it’s not like the best bigs or points or shooters are climbing over each other to be here.

God that sounded depressing. All that to say, when we do get a kid we know that he’s willing to put the time in to be a better player, and person. I’m ok with that. As long as we keep putting up respectable seasons.

When life hands you lemons, make grape juice. Let them wonder how the F*ck you did it.

    We are after…

Robert Upshaw Would definitely be happy with him. Cauley beat him head to head this year per Bossi, fwiw.

Demetrius Henry Pretty decent offer list.

Laimonas Chatkevicius Call him Moose because it’s easier. He is ours if we want him according to the last GPC update. He may reclassify to 2013 as well.

You will not find one person that doesn’t believe he is going to be a very good college guard, and probably a four year guy and 3 year starter for most high level programs.. Although he didn’t shoot it that well from the field 4-11..

Can score, didn’t look too athletic, looks like he could lose some weight to, but has a controlled game and understands where to get his shots. Very much looks like he thinks the game and he should be good in our offense because of it. Defensively he looked disinterested, got his hands on some balls for steals, but overall was not impressed with his game on that side of the ball..

Agreed. I re-watched on DVR last night -

while wrapping presents, errr, fighting communists.

    1. Please god can we get reinvolved with Tony Parker. Lost weight, stronger with great touch. Only reason Miller Grove kept is close. Embrassed Hammonds I thought.

    2. I may watch NC State games just for Ty Lewis who could not look less like a Division 1 player (5’ 11" 165 lbs). Best passer I have seen – and I am west coast guy – since maybe Luke Ridnour. He Purvis and Warren are going to have some obscene lobs at NC St.

    3. DSR is a scorer. Leading scorer on the best high school team in the country, whats not to like. Plays like a blend between CW and Free, with some of the plusses and minuses of both. Got to line well, did not finish great, nice stroke, indifferent D – kind of was looking to make steals and did get his hands on a lot of balls. Very happy if he is third guard with Starks and Jabrail. Best case comparison – Khalid Reeves/Jarrett Jack.

    4. RJ Curington – 6’4" Junior on Oak Hill plays behind DSR. We are recruiting him and he hit a couple of big 3s. Could certainly hand athleteically. Tough between him and Hart, but I think I prefer Hart.

He may not be listed at 6-9 or anything, but this guy is a true 4. The quest for the post-Sims center goes on, but you need rocks like Gathers to build top teams around.

    Scout 6’7"

    K T Harrell

I don’t think we nor he would benefit by him coming to the Hilltop. He would more then likely play behind someone else and that seems to be the reason for him transferring. I would like to see Bowen come of the bench behind Clark, I think his size it would create a miss match and he’s got that 3 point shot.

A lil bit about Rondae for those that don’t know..

6’7 Consensus top 30 recruit, 19 Rivals, 27 Scout, 33 Espn. He’s very much a point forward can really handle and create for others. Above average athlete, great rebounder, but struggles with his shot. His shooting is his one glaring weakness, if he tightens that up than he would be in the 10-15 range easily.

Best thing about the kid when asked by reporters what he can bring to the table the first thing out of his mouth is defense. That being said his offensive game is really good, and even though he struggles with his shot he has no problems putting up numbers for a loaded Chester team.

In our offense due to his strong ball handling and playmaking ability he could either play PG (Reaching a little but hoping.. yes please) or Point Forward I imagine. He’s 2013 so he still has time to develop.

    http://twitter.com/#!/JT55iVe/status/153259179807739904

Cant figure out how to quote on my phone, but basically that people questioned his descion on georgetown.

What is the main thing being used against us in recruiting? System? Why wouldnt a tough guard want to come to gtown?

As an aside what i really like about this team is that its almost the basketball verison of the total football approach used by the dutch soccer teams in the esrly 70s. Those clockwork orange teams did not have set positions but could slip interchangably from attack to defending. I feel like our team almost has that with everyone expected to be able to pass, shoot back cut rebound and defend from almost any point on floor with less emphasis on traditional positions – eg guards in the backcourt and forwards in the front court. It plays out in that just about anyone could lead the team on an given night- really like the balance and versitility.

    Kids stay away because...

    1. Academics-you can’t take Basket Weaving or the Theory of Dodgeball at G-town. Inner city kids are not prepared to do this after the coddling and hand holding they’ve unfortunately (for them) been getting for all these years. They’ve been drinking the cool-aid so long about how great they are, that they don’t want to do classwork for too long, maybe until the 2nd semester ends of their frosh year. Look at Calipari’s record for kids: after 1 or 2 years in the NBA they go back to the hood and chill. They aren’t world shakers or rain makers, or even societal contributors. They don’t get degrees ! They don’t go anywhere.

    2. AAU Ball-The top kids are often uncoachable and undisciplined. AAU has prevented kids from learning the basics of basketball. AAU ball highlights your athleticism, but teaches you nothing about team ball. Little greedy point guards run up and down and hog the ball. They only throw hot dogg passes. Big men block shots and dunk, but never box out, never learn post moves, never learn post defense, never learn to pass, and all you ever hear today is “that there are no big men anymore”.

    3. Dick Vitale-He hypes all of his cash making buddies like Cal, Pitino and coach K$, but has always despised G-town since the days of Coach Thompson II and Patrick Ewing. I hate to even listen to him on the TV. He’s a hypocrite and a has-been. He sucked as a coach and now is in the HOF. What ?

    4. JT3 is too real-The top kids wanna be one 1 and done. Give me more G Monroe’s. Remember how he went from being #1 in the country to #20 ? Why ? Because he chose G-town and the people at ESPN and the other rating idiots just wanna use these kids and hype them so it helps their NBA ratings. The kids are a product for them. A commodity like the COMEX. JT3 tells them what they need to work on. He talks about their weaknesses but promises to help them get there. Other kids take the b.s. from coaches and sit the bench and end up nowhere .

    DSR is solid

My only lingering doubt that should get resolved by Kenner next year is whether he has the quicks and strength to still bully his way to the paint and draw fouls against BE guards. Brill has a hard time doing that now and I think he is a significantly better athelete.

Would love to get reinvolved with Parker and appreciate the push from DSR – but I think that is a very long shot. Now if Parker actually comes for a visit – then we have a shot.

by Big Spoon on Jan 6, 2012 5:03 PM EST up reply actions

    Might have already been posted

    Brandon Bolden, Center, Quality Education

Bolden is committed to Georgetown, and Hoyas head coach John Thompson was in attendance to watch his prized 6’11″ recruit. Bolden had a somewhat unimpressive game in terms of scoring (three points), but showed some flashes of brilliance. He is very athletic and moves well on the floor for a big man. He is a big-time shot blocking threat, but is fairly skinny, and will have to bulk up to do well in the Big East.

If Adams gets a M.R he would be a part of the DSR Bolden class and drops the Sophomores down to 6.

I have seen him play twice

both times at the Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling WV. The improvement between last year and this year is very impressive. Last year, conditioning seemed like a major issue; this year, he dominated the paint against a good, if undersized, team. Looks like more of a pounder/grinder as opposed to a skilled passer.

I went to the MLK Hoopfest Showcase to watch Troy and Josh Hart play. Troy had a horrible game in which he had more turnovers than points. Clearly, the guy has a big upside, but he could not make anything happen and did not look like a top ten player.

Hart had a very solid performance. His outside shooting was off, but he goes hard to the basket and had a couple of strong dunks in traffic.

    A little down about 2012/13

We dont seem to be close on any bigs except maybe meeks. bolden is routinely getting DNPs for his high schhol team. Did not get warren, anderson, upshaw or white. Faded in running for noel, tony parker, gathers, troy is becoming a long shot.

hart is probably most likely recruit but mirrors what DSR does. And neither is super atheletic. Really dont want to lose the mo from this years class when we can see how effectve rangy wings can be.

That said its not all bad, land hart, pollard or domingo and meeks and at least it wont be wattad and benimon and vee off the bench.

If they landed those 4 our team would be insanely good..

Hart is probably more comparable to Jabril than DSR.. Rivera’s more like a Austin Freeman type but remember Austin was a top 15 guy… Domingo is like another Hollis..

    New Espn rankings for 2012…
    http://espn.go.com/college-sports//basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/espnu100/sort/rank/class/2012

Arizona’s class is ridiculous… How in the hell is Jordan Adams rated so high? He can shoot but he’s a fatty mac. Dude is the Josh Smith of small forwards..Oak Hill/Ucla effect I guess….shrugs

    Wondering how

UVA has signed more players (2012) than G’Town…fwiw!

In this case Tony Bennett runs the ‘same offense’ just like JT3 (but with a twist of lime). Should we as fans be worried, due to the lack of signatures? Not stating that the staff isn’t tryin’ hard to bring in quality players, however where is it that the staff is coming up short.

Perhaps I’m just being delusional or rather paranoid….To be continued!

    Justin Anderson

sort of fell in their lap when Gary Williams retired but Bennet has done a great job. So has Houston – House really raised his stock. Don’t understand how James Robinson passed DSR .

I think we have a decent chance with Pollard but agree on 2012 guys. But again I am not sure we need it. With Bowen and likely moses redshirting – we will have a 6 person sophmore class – and freshman class of DSR, Adams and Bolden, with two juniors (Starks and Lubbick). 11 kids is light – so no injuries. Maybe take a transfer.

by bunk moreland on Jan 25, 2012 11:44 AM EST up reply actions

    This

Between Moses injury, suspension, and limited playing time as a frosh it’s almost like you have a 4 person class with Dsr, Addams, Bolden, and Moses as is…

by yaboynyp on Jan 25, 2012 1:18 PM EST up reply actions

    I agree perhaps

I’m not lookin’ at the ‘bigger picture’ in regards to recruiting/injuries etc….

by Big Spoon on Jan 25, 2012 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

On a side note has anyone noticed the insane amount of transfers UCLA has had recently??

Matt Carlino (BYU), Jamison Morgan, Mike Moser (UNLV), Drew Gorden (New Mexico), Chace Stanback (UNLV), De’end Parker (TBA), Reeves Nelson (dismissed TBA) etc..

Between that and guys jumping to the pro’s way before they are ready (Richard Mbah a Moute, Malcolm Lee etc..) it seems players can’t wait to get away from Howland soon enough..

Wonder if he survives the year. Ucla isn’t used to missing the tourney 2 out of 3 years and .500 winning percentages.

by yaboynyp on Jan 25, 2012 1:49 PM EST up reply actions

    Howland has a mess

I don’t think a chucker like Adams and Kyle Anderson are going to solve a lot either. Wear twins are not fast. Kyle aint fast. Smith is smith. I think they are middling again next year. He is on thin ice.

But also reinforces transfers happen anywhere. Herb Sendek at ASU quoted a statistic that 40% of bball players who sign an LOI with a D-1 school are not at that school by the end of their sophomore year.

by bunk moreland on Jan 25, 2012 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

    Wow

those are alot of heads who’ve left that program.

In regards to their recruiting they already have Kyle Anderson, and now their really workin’ on Shabazz Muhammad, and then they’ll leave the program after 1 yr.

Furthermore the Pac-12 is so weak that Cal is likely the only team to make the big dance.

ESPN has posted their scouting updates and some recruits have dropped in grade. One that comes to mind is our very own Brandon Bolden. Apparently he has dropped one point from 90 to 89 and remarkably enough he also lost several inches in height to 6’8. Check out others that you may have in mind and see where they place.

    Saw on zags

we were involved with Orlando Sanchez – a 6’8" JC F who played on the Dominican National Team. Sounds like not much faith in Nate, Bolden, Adams, Moses next year.

by bunk moreland on Feb 1, 2012 12:17 PM EST reply actions

But Gathers, Parker, Upshaw would be behind the current guys

Sanchez would be the same position and class year as Nate, with Adams, Moses, Hopinks a year behind. If I was any of those guys I would be worried about playing time.

    Long Shot

As much as I would LOVE to get Noel, I think it is a long shot. Yes, he would be a perfect fit, and could propel the hoyas into national championship contention, we have a small chance. As it stands now Cuse probably leads for him. The best thing G-town could do is to get a visit from him. If we can get a visit we have a shot.

A few things to keep in mind when looking at competitors for Noel:

Cuse: They already have Dajuan coleman, but still they will as hard as possible on noel.

Uconn: If Drummond were to stay, then I think that would all but eliminate them.

Kentucky: They have Willie cauly, but Coach Cal will go all out to get Noel. But keep in mind, Cal will still be working hard to get shabazz.

    We have a small shot

    Stolen from the other board...

    1st Noel:

“Georgetown, who Noel is also planning to take an official visit too, had John Thompson at one of his games last week.

"Their interest is high too," Noel told Scout.com. "Coach Thompson was up here last week for one of my games. Georgetown is a real good school basketball wise and academically.

"They just have a great history with their big men and the Princeton offense and where their big men are always involved," he added."

    http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/1155223.html

    And 2nd Tony Parker:

“My coaches said Big John (former Georgetown coach John Thompson Sr.) was at my game last Saturday versus Dunwoody. Having him at one of my games is an absolute honor because he is a great coach and man. He has done a lot for basketball, and my family really appreciated him coming because they grew up watching Georgetown in their neighborhood. If you were a good basketball player, Georgetown was the place to be.”

Nice song and dance but are they going to visit??

They both need to make a commitment to visit. I don’t think these guys would want to play behind Moses and Adams and I’m sure neither Moses or Adams wants to lose a spot but what does one do.

by Melvin M. Tuggle III on Feb 2, 2012 5:59 PM EST up reply actions

Noel will visit.. TP maybe not..

Ohio State definitely feels like they have Parker in their back pocket.. The bigger thing is Big John going to see some of these kids play that aren’t in the DMV area.. Where as a lot of these kids may not be familiar with those old Hoya teams, their parents definitely know and he is an Icon in the African American community.

Certainly can’t hurt things but still Parker is a long shot.

As for playing time, Noel plays 30+ minutes from the jump no matter whose on the roster. Parker probably 25. Noel’s AAU team plays a similar offense to ours from what I understand. He gets a lot of touches inside and out, and they run the offense through him similar to Georgetown.

We just need to keep winning games on the court and that plus hardwork, will win us some of these recruiting battles.

I think they only have Omar Calhoun committed

G from Brooklyn. And he might not jump ship. More likely everyone who thinks they are NBA material will declare – Drummond, Lamb, Napier – maybe even boatwright. Orakhi would be eligble to transfer and play immediately as well.

It helps in that it weakens a strong competitor and hopefully ushers Calhoun out the door. But at least they got a practice facility.

Drummond and Lamb will declare. Yes they have Omar C from CTK, but can’t believe that any big-timer in the clas of ‘12 will chose them knowing that they can’t play in the tourney next year. And won’t be surpised if some guys transferred (Roscoe and Deandre D in particular).

Noel is a bright, intelligent guy, just like Devonta P. They are winners and if the Hoyas land one or both, they will be a fave for the 2013 final 4.

I have been receiving some very good reports about Kaza Keane, who could be the top Canadian point guard in the 2013 class.

The Toronto native who attends the Christian Faith Center Academy in Creedmoor, N.C., is 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds. He has excellent court vision, 3-point range and plays with good energy and urgency on both ends of the floor. Keane is also a good defender who puts good pressure on the ballhandler and is alert in passing lanes. He has good but not elite speed and quickness, but seems to have a great feel for the game.

“What I do best is make plays; I do whatever my team needs. I have good court vision and can score, when needed. I need to add strength and be more vocal,” Keane said.
