Do we as fans get 'too' caught up in *star* rankings?

Just wondering due to the power of the internet and 'expert' opinions, how do we as fans stay grounded as to not get too caught up in the value of certain 4 or 5 star characters traits?

As you can view multiple sports sites, you can see various star rankings on players (also on various sites different ratings appear on players so there isn't any consistency towards a person's value), does this really make it harder for a coach to succeed if they do not have the actual number of 4 or 5 star players in the mix?

Furthermore does this screw up a programs chances of grabbing a certain player b/c of a certain style a player like to be around?

Stay Casual, my friends.
