Stubby: The Original Jack the Bulldog?
I just received this link with a story about an American soldier,J Robert Conroy, serving in France in WWI who had a dog named Stubby. Both Conroy and Stubby distinguished themselves in the Great War.
Along the way Stubby developed an impressive, heroic resume: acts of heroism on the battlefields, winning medals, meeting Presidents, by all accounts a helluva dog.
After the war Conroy returned to the Hilltop to study law and brought Stubby with him. Stubby became the mascot of Georgetown teams until Stubby died in 1926.
Apparently, Stubby is stuffed and still resides at the Smithsonian. His photo and the full story is at this link.

Even Georgetown mascots accomplish more than most college graduates. Kudos Stubby.

Awesome, thanks for the link!
After that last, unholy row,
I never, ever play, basketball now.
It joins a list of things I'll miss like fencing foils and lovely girls I'll never kiss.
