Georgetown Lady Hoyas v. UConn Lady Huskies: Sweet Sixteen Open Thread
The Georgetown Lady Hoyas are playing today for the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, and all that stands in the way is the dreaded UConn Lady Huskies. If you can't be in Philadelphia for the game, turn on ESPN at noon and enjoy the way these casual ladies play the game, you might find it quite refreshing.
"We're David. UConn's Goliath. We want to take them out," McNutt said.
Go get 'em.
Hoya Saxa.

Is there a web stream somewhere? Espn3?
Let's settle this with a poll.

We play 'em ten times, they might win nine.
But not today.
by KeepItSaxa on Mar 27, 2011 10:24 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
apparently the ladies' Wright has wrecking ball tendencies as well...
Let's settle this with a poll.
It helps
when the stands are half full.
When are we getting back to lunch documentation?

Hoyas up 3 at half
If you don't like Georgetown, then you must also hate Christmas morning. - Mike Freeman

Free throw shooting
Looks like a Memphis team

There needs to be a Casual Awards for this game

the last two possessions were more in control
but UConn hitting a three in the middle was not helpful…

Dammit
So close and great effort. Bad luck in the last four minutes there.
Let's settle this with a poll.
Tough loss
But the women played theirs butts off out there. I forgot what it was like to watch a team play hard for forty minutes. They never gave up and fought the whole way. The Hoya women just won themselves a new fan.

Keep your heads up Hoyas
I have never cared about women’s hoops before but I watched them against MD and UConn. I have to say I’m proud of the way the women scrapped today and they are very entertaining to watch. Tough loss but Coach clearly has the program going in the right direction. Sounds like she is getting some good recruits and building something good on the Hilltop. Go Hoyas!

nothing surprises me anymore
first knut, then butler, and now vcu (so far), i am now immune to anything.
Casually.
i almost
Hope they win it all at this point. They’re on fire from 3 so far.

if it was one guy hitting, kansas could guard them
but there are 3-4 guys nailing their shots. it’s unreal.
by Hoya Saxual on Mar 27, 2011 3:03 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
i have to admit it feels kind of good to watch kansas get pwned the way we did
still early, however
Casually.
dude it feels more than 'good'
its downright therapeutic
Cuse delenda est
yeah
even if kansas wins, it won’t have been pretty.
also
the man appears to be a good coach (and he sure has interesting pep talks), but could somebody please buy shaka smart a jacket? i’ll start a collection.
jay wright was arguably the best dressed man in the tournament
where was he last night? not prepping for Kansas…he was sitting behind a commentators desk with Charles Barkley and co.

not saying his wardrobe makes him a bad coach
just that it is painful to look at.
oh, it is tough on the eyes, no argument there!
but aren’t these guys superstitious? switching it up now might be sacrilege or something.
by Hoya Saxual on Mar 27, 2011 3:14 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
after this run
im sure he will be able to upgrade the wardrobe
Cuse delenda est
i love it how he
Gets so fired up on the sidelines. Like he’s guarding someone on defense.
Come on VCU keep it up!

who wishes they had taken
that 11.5 point spread vegas was offering for the rams?
Cuse delenda est
has an 8-11 seed f4 matchup ever happened?
Cuse delenda est
when is this blog hiring a statistician?
this is stuff we need to know on demand
Cuse delenda est
hate math, love wikipedia...
Only two 11-seeds have made it to the Final Four, as far as I can tell:
GMU played 3-seed Florida in 2006, LSU played 2-seed Louisville in 1986
by Hoya Saxual on Mar 27, 2011 3:33 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
need one badly
in the meantime, i’m going to get some chips and salsa and dig in for the 2nd half
Casually.
surprisingly, i'm pulling for vcu
but I see kansas going on a big run right now.
I am too
I really like this team even though they beat us.
You deserve a Roy Hibbert elbow to the face.

3:30 and VCU is final four
bill self’s coaching is losing this game for kansas
Cuse delenda est
wow
This is unbelievable! Go rams.
by iheartgregmonroe on Mar 27, 2011 4:33 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
can i be the intern?
Only twice have none of the number one seeds made the final four. Last time was 2006.
by iheartgregmonroe on Mar 27, 2011 4:35 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
shaka smart's smile before that last commercial break
looked like a kid who’s barely managing to contain a fit of giggling and squealing. i enjoy seeing that from a coach.
by Hoya Saxual on Mar 27, 2011 4:35 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
great point
odd no one has mentioned that

VC f'ing U
I want to know if anyone has VCU/butler in their final four
by iheartgregmonroe on Mar 27, 2011 4:46 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
There's at least one guy on the ESPN tournament challenge
His Final 4 is VCU, Butler, UConn, and Kentucky.
by rochesterhoya07 on Mar 27, 2011 4:59 PM EDT reply actions
Can we reinstate Marquette
And have them in the final 4 over UK and UNC? I don’t like the idea of either of them winning this game
by rochesterhoya07 on Mar 27, 2011 5:09 PM EDT reply actions
I can’t pull for either of these teams.
by iheartgregmonroe on Mar 27, 2011 5:34 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Agreed
UNC is always overly media-hyped and overrated, just like Duke. But UK since they picked up Calipari has become possibly more reprehensible. There is something very “un-collegiate” about running out a fresh set of NBA first-round one and dones every year. I can’t imagine the NCAA wants Cal to succeed, since they would have to vacate a national championship several years down the road
