Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

Chat with Dana O'Neil (ESPN)

Logan (DC): How impressive are the road wins for Georgetown this year?
Dana O'Neil (2:10 PM): Extremely and a 7 game win streak in the Big East is like scaling Mt. Everest in a bikini. Impossible. Very impressed with the Hoyas right now.

I'm getting a FatHead of Dana O'Neil

In a bikini. Scaling Mt Everest…

After that last, unholy row,
I never, ever play, basketball now.
It joins a list of things I'll miss like fencing foils and lovely girls I'll never kiss.

another one from Dana

Mark: Everyone but DePaul. Kidding. To me, seven are locks right now- Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Villanova, Louisville, Connecticut and Syracuse. Then you’ve got four with decent potential but I still say some work to do: Marquette, West Virginia, St. John’s and Cincy. Some combination, and maybe all of them get in.

You deserve a Roy Hibbert elbow to the face.

I’m probably reading into this too much but the fact that she mentioned Georgetown 2nd makes me feel good about our standings in the conference.

Coincidentally?

That is the order of the standings, only with GU (3) and ND (2) flipped. Maybe she’s prognosticating what our position will be at the end of next week?

i'd be surprised if cincy winds up making it

they’re going to need to beat us (at least) once to do so

Casually.

First off

we aren’t 18-6. Jackass (Luke Winn, not you).

Second, whatever statistics you are citing about us are BS

I feel soooo sad that you & your orange clad kinfolk can't get tickets to our home game.....

Something tells me

Luke wrote his article Wednesday afternoon. He is very fair to us normally, I’d even call him a fan. No reason he’d not move us up other than that.

My handle used to be Jeff Green's Dad, but it was confusing and creepy, namely because I am not his dad. My new handle is JGD. I am trim and in charge.

Careful with that

Winn’s a Casual reader, don’t want to hurt his feelings. Those are some strange numbers, though.

by WarmupEwing on Feb 10, 2011 5:50 PM EST up reply actions

ok ok

Luke Winn has been kind in the past, and I really can’t take issue with being 9, though I do think we merit a #2 seed.

hoya prospectus took a massive (5 kourics, roughly) dump on that exact stat this week

it’s a lazy + bad way to adjust for quality of opponent (by not looking at the whole year). plus, we’re talking about 11 games and 3 of them are our worst performances of the year. It’s biased. Unfortunately, it’s not good news for georgetown (our remaining games are surprisingly tough according to the numbers). But it is a small sample skewed greatly by Brooks’ 43 points and other such moments i’m willing to believe are outliers.

as for being 9, no one above us lost or won but won badly. it’s reasonable to stay there.

by thejerseytornado on Feb 10, 2011 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah these numbers are greatly skewed due to our poor start if you look at the 7 game win streak our efficiency margin numbers match up very well.

why is texas ahead of pitt?

in all of the polls, with a worse record and a head to head loss against them?? i havent been able to figure that one out all year…

by PaulTagliawho on Feb 10, 2011 5:58 PM EST reply actions

Toss up

But Texas is playing REALLY well right now (that win against KU was a thing of beauty) and people tend to back off Pitt somewhat because of perceived lack of star power. It would be criminal if it eventually kept Pitt out of a #1 seed but I don’t that will happen.
