Positive PostGame Prognosis: DePaul

Hoyas won right? I certainly couldn't tell after reading the boards. Come on people, don't give in to cynicism. We won! And if not for that last minute of the game after we took out all our starters it would've been a blow out. We were up 17pts with 1:12 to go then took out all our starters. DePaul scored 6 unanswered points in that last minute distorting the final score.

I'm not here to say we played perfectly. I'm here to say we played adequately. Every Season is different, Every team is different, Every game is different. It's lazy and inaccurate to suggest that this BE season is going just like the last two. It's even more inaccurate to say that 08-9 and 09-10 were the same problems. In 08-09 we were out gunned and beaten by good teams we were worn down by the strength of the big east. 8 of our losses were to ranked teams. The big east that year was brutal. We dropped close games and games to teams we should've beaten, but as part of a massive losing streak. Last year there was no prolonged losing streak we didn't completely fall apart like in 08-09. We never lost more than 2 games in a row. The problems of those two years were not the same and they're not the same as this years team. Last years team does not win this game. There are at least 2 other games that last years team probably doesn't win that we have won this year. This years team is better than last years and will not fall short in big east play. If you can't see that or at least believe that then I don't know what I can tell you to convince you.Seems most people have already made up their minds about the team.

It's a long season. The team will continue to improve. There were several bad stretches, but for the most part, the Hoyas played well. We missed at least 10 layups where the ball just rolled off the rim. Those go in and this game never gets close. The game looked closer than it really was due to he unlucky bounces. In the first two games of BE play we have had all the bounces go against us. Balls rolling off the rim for us and rolling in for the opposing team, the ball bouncing off our hands out of bounds, shots bouncing oddly off the rim leading to offensive rebounds. There are bounces that can go either way in a game and so far this BE season they've been going agianst us. Our luck will change and quite frankly I'd rather have our luck be bad now and get better than the opposite.

The Hoyas showed great poise. They absorbed DePaul's best shot with out flinching then responded and slowly and methodically put the Blue Demons away. Essentially the Hoyas pulled a rope a dope against the Blue Demons. They punched themselves out midway through the second half and the Hoyas never looked back.

Player Evaluations:

Chris Wright: Georgetown has won 100% of the time (7-0) when Chris Wright has 7 assists or more. I'm constantly amazed at the way chris has transformed his game into distributor extraordinaire. Oh yeah he also had 17pts and 2 steals. He did a great job of putting the ball on the floor since his 3pt shot isn't currently falling.

Austin Freeman: Austin regained his stroke from deep (3-5) but also showed off his versatility and physicality in getting to the rim and hitting shots in the midrange. Austin also had 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 0 turnovers. Easily the MVP of this game as he had the most compete game.

Jason Clark: Jason also did a great job of realizing that his shot wasn't falling and getting his points on the inside. He had several very nice moves to the basket and acrobatic finishes.

Hollis Thompson: Continued his good work on the boards grabbing 5 boards. I'll take 7pts 5 boards 1 assist and 1 steal from Hollis. That's a good solid game.

Julian Vaughn: 9 points and 10 rebounds. For all the talk of how he was abused on the defensive end he actually gave up the least amount of points of any starter (8). He continued his great work on the offensive boards grabbing 3 and 14% of the available misses. Oh yeah he also had 1 assist 2 block and 0 turn overs, but no he totally sucked.

Henry Sims: Another very solid showing by Henry despite being plagued by foul trouble. 2-3 from the field 7 rebounds! an assist and a block. Henry was great defensively. Too bad the refs wouldn't let him play. Henry had a defensive rating of 34.5! His length really bothers people.

Nate Lubick: How about that monster dunk on the back door feed. Love his attitude and style of game. He's going to throw it down on you every chance he gets.

Jerrelle Benimon: Jerrelle knows who he is and that's a valuable role player. He only took one shot and made it. Grabbed 2 offensive rebounds, recorded an assist and a block. He hustles hard and defends. That's all we need from him.

Vee Sanford: Got surprisingly few minutes. Vee kept up his ridiculous 3pt shooting % going 1-2 in this game upping his season averages to 10-15! 2/3rds of his 3pters are going in. He also recorded a steal and an assist in only 4 minutes.

Markel Starks: Limited playing time, but manage to grab a critical offensive rebound and got a steal on the defensive end. He had some nice attempts that just didn't fall. He got some minutes that will benefit him in the future getting to play against

Moses Ayegba: Only got 1 minute of playing time, not enough to evaluate him properly

Stay Casual, my friends.
