Nova Invited to Big East Football

They were invited a few years back, when UConn accepted and they turned it down.  Lots of things have changed like the gads of money they could make.  But some things have not, like their location, and their ability to host games on campus.   The article mentions the posibility of playing at the new soccer stadium, but its not exacly around the corner.  Playing at the Linc is ruled out because Temple calls it their home field.

Villanova football considering joining Big East

Stay Casual, my friends.

not good for gtown

nova is a key program keeping the basketball-only schools in the conference right now

Good talk.

After our Davidson win

Shouldn’t we be considered as well?

1) it’s not a slam dunk that Nova joins. I think it’s much more likely they decline the offer. There’s a very good chance that big time football would not work for them and they’d lose money on such a venture.
2) I think it’s good news that the BE is looking to expand from within rather than from the outside.
3) there’s a good chance at least 1 big east program still gets poached by the big 10. So even if nova joins they’ll eventually be looking for more members. If the BE shows they’re willing to help with the transition as the article implies it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Georgetown could make the move at some point. Sure it’d have to wait at least until the science center and the practice facility are done, but 10 years from now it could be a possibility. (delusional)

if nova joins

why maintain an 18 team basketball conference? they could easily drop the 7 non-football schools, or 6 non-football schools if ND jumps onboard.

Good talk.

1) ND is never going to give up it’s independence. It has no reason to. BYU’s move just assured them of never having to join a conference.
2) there fore even if nova joins and they have a 9 football team league they’d want at least 1 other member for basketball and other sports. Maybe they still give it to ND, but maybe it’s us and they may want a 12 team league of which we would certainly be a member.
3) More likely than not someone will get poached by the B10 leaving them back at 8 football schools even with nova and they’re back where they started.

there is NO WAY they wait 10 years for georgetown to become bcs ready

the program doesnt even have full scholarships right now.

GU lacks they money, fans, support and facilities to compete in football. compare the 2000 campus plan (related to athletics) to where we stand now. that is about where we will be in 2020 as well.

we manage to get 18,000 basketball fans to the arena once every three years. how would gtown football be expected to draw 20,000+ fans for every home game?

big east would drop us and take temple before waiting for gtown football to turn the corner.

Good talk.

Technically we only have to average 15,000 fans to be D-I A program.

but in all honesty there’s very little chance of us really having a D-I A.

But i don’t think we need it to stay in a BCS conference. We’re so strong in all our other sports that it makes sense for the big east to keep us since there aren’t enough good football teams to fill out a decent league.

Nova thoughts

AD: Villanova Pondering FBS Move

Good perspective from USF

cant imagine all of philly getting behind nova and it is hard to have bcs success with a 17,500 stadium.

Good talk.

Nova Football...

I can’t see this working at all.

A.) The football stadium only holds 12,000. B.) No one and I mean no one goes the games. Usually at least 1/2 empty, unless we are playing Delaware. Then it’s full of Delaware fans. I live less than 5 miles from the Stadium and I don’t go to the games now. I ain’t going to South Philly or Chester to see them play. Especially when I can sit at home and watch Big Ten or SEC Football. C.) Need to add women’s sports to become Title IX compliant and more scholarships for football. This will cost a ton with little to no return.

If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy. . .

I don't have a clue...

but our endowment is very lowed as compared to you guys and Notre Dame. I don’t see how this works for ’Nova.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

almost positive that nova does their due diligence and realizes that the costs are not worth it and it would not be financially prudent to upgrade their football to I-A

true

saved gtown admin the hassle of doing it, since they will most certainly screw up
