I have them winning today

Not sure why

It's not you, it's me.

by JGD on Mar 18, 2010 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm not sure why either.

But if they do, I have BYU getting crushed by K State, so it won’t cost me too much.

I’m really concerned about that happening with every first road game though…

Why so Syracuse?

by HoyaJoker07 on Mar 18, 2010 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

ive never been big on Brigham Young

they never ever win games in the tourney, b/c they are a bunch of whiteys who play no one tough all year round, and have an amazing home court advantage that vanishes when they play in the tourney.

That said I couldnt pick the upset in this bracket, Florida just doesnt seem like a very strong team. But I think peeps who have BYU beating KSU are drinking the crazy sauce.

It's not me, It's you

What's the excepted protocol

For rooting for Big East teams in the early rounds? Would we rather see the BE go far again like last year or see Lehigh and Robert Morris celebrating at center court today?

by Harbin2-2005 on Mar 18, 2010 11:13 AM EDT reply actions

does anyone else have a bad feeling about the BE?

Nova, Marquette, Louisville, ND, even Syracuse with the injury to AO, seems like they could be upset early.

It's not me, It's you

by SomebodyBuyAustinaSteak on Mar 18, 2010 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm feeling this too.

I don’t have Marquette or ND coming out of this weekend. And my Louisville beating Duke is only because I think you have to truly believe in something if you want it to come true.

Why so Syracuse?

BE...

I too have a bad feeling about the BE in the tourney. Then we get to hear about how overrated the conference is.

Never mistake effort for achievement.

by Esteban d' Amur on Mar 18, 2010 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions

But hey, let's be positive.

Marquette COULD light up New Mexico.
Notre Dame COULD keep their weird new game rolling through Baylor.
Louisville COULD beat Duke (I especially think this because I think Samuels can give their bigs trouble like Greg did, just not as well)

And if those three things happen, bam, eight BE teams in the Sweet Sixteen. At which point, they’d have to go down to a) each other or b) another Sweet Sixteen team, which makes the overrated argument much harder to make.

Not impossible…they’d still make it…but it would sound dumb.

Why so Syracuse?

by HoyaJoker07 on Mar 18, 2010 11:44 AM EDT up reply actions

I think the conference will have...

at least 5 in the sweet 16. Either way, this is the best weekend of the year.

it was a cathartic exercise

never realized how close the hoyas came to winning that game.

down 4 with 2:30 left, that killer jeff green charge shifted momentum back to OSU and that was it.

stunning no-shows by green and summers in that game. too bad, really, since ohio state didn’t exactly bring its A game either.

frustrating loss, but onward and upward.

Down Goes Cuse?

As someone with a fair number of Hoya friends and a lot of time to read this blog, I’ve been exposed to 4 days of complaining about Georgetown’s draw in the tournament. I feel for you, but take a moment to consider the huge shaft that my beloved Vermont Catamounts received this year by the selection "committee."

Vermont is being sent to the gulag of New York State to face Syracuse in their backyard. I’d like to sit here and pretend the NCAA intended this as a grudge match for the beat down Vermont put on Syracuse in the opening round of the 2004/2005 tournament (also known as the greatest day in the history of the state of Vermont…not yet a state holiday, however). Or maybe CBS paid them off so they could spend the entire pregame overhyping the Jo Bros match up – Maurice Joseph (VT) and Kris Joseph (SYR). Whatever the reason, it’s complete crap.

We’ve never seen a 16 seed beat a 1 seed. Eventually it will happen. And ESPN will spend the next decade analyzing it and showing the game on ESPN Classic. But it’s probably not going to happen this year, or could it…

Here’s why it could happen:

Vermont is pissed. I don’t mean just the team. The entire state is upset. I haven’t seen this many angry white people since Ben & Jerry’s was sold to the multi-national corporate conglomerate Unilever. That was a sad day, but I digress. Their 16 seed is insulting. Yes, they play in a weak division, but they’ve been to the NCAA tourney 3 times since the 2002/2003 season, been to the NIT once, and been within 1 and 2 wins of an NCAA bid twice. This isn’t some upstart mid-major who got lucky. They have a decent program and should have been rewarded for it. And you better believe they’re unhappy about this.

Vermont shot 57% from outside the arc in the America East title game — almost double their season average. If guards Nick Vier and Garvey Young can stay hot, that just might make it interesting.

Syracuse lost 3 of their last 7 games. They haven’t played since they got handled by the Hoyas in their first game of the BET. They might be cold and Onuaku may not play. That would free up 261 pounds in the middle for Marcus Blakely to have the game of his life. Vermont is coming in relatively lukewarm, with only one loss in their last 12. Granted they play in the America East Conference (I promise it exists, Google it), but they’ve taken care of business by winning their conference tourney.

Here’s why it probably will not happen:

It’s Vermont. They lost to New Hampshire. By 19 points.

If it does happen, remember you heard it here first.

by HonoraryHoya on Mar 18, 2010 11:33 AM EDT reply actions   1 recs

It could happen

Losing to Vermont in the postseason would be a perfect bookend to a season that began with a preseason loss to Div. II LeMoyne.

I would buy a Vermont Sweatshirt.

Same offer stands to Arkansas Pine Bluff, East Tennessee State and Lehigh.

Vermont or UAPB, though, I think I’d have to donate a paycheck or something.

Why so Syracuse?

by HoyaJoker07 on Mar 18, 2010 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions

...to makes matters worse....

they lost to Binghamton this year too. Thanks for the opening HH.

look, yes UVM pulled off the great upset a few years back, but as an America Beast follower, this is not your Tom Brennan Catamounts….that team was stacked with faux wanna-be NBA talent not good enough for the NBDL. this team while good does not have 3 pro potebtial players like that UVM squad.

One would include some ice cubes and a nine iron. Two would include a buffalo, live or stuffed, preferably stuffed for safety’s sake, and three brings back the ice cubes but brings it down to a pitching wedge.

Robert Morris

Arguably doing better than their Best Case Scenario:

“Best Case: The vertically challenged Colonials feel comfortable playing the fellow shorties from Villanova. With Nova playing well below its early-season level, Robert Morris gains confidence as the game progresses and wins it on two Karon Abraham free throws in the final seconds. The nation has 48 more hours to figure out who Robert Morris was and where his namesake university is located. "

Actually

Yes. There was an “offensive foul” that Scotty drew that was a ridiculous flop, and there were some other questionable calls, too.

Good news for Robert Morris: No player has more than 2 fouls.

Picture it

After a great relationship in the early season, Georgetown and the 2 seed broke up. To be fair, it was Georgetown’s fault. A 2 seed like that has high expectations and Georgetown just didn’t realize what it had. Both parties made some mistakes. The 2 seed began spending time with that asshole Duke while Georgetown rebounded lower and lower, eventually waking up next to the bottom of the polls.

But then, Georgetown shaped up. It remembered how great things with the 2-seed were and it wanted them back. So it did what it could, made a grand gesture in the Big East Tournament and for a few days, Georgetown and the 2-seed began flirting again. Little glances from across the room. It was a long shot: 2-seed still remembered being hurt. But Georgetown looked different; 2-seed thought things might have actually changed.

At the last minute, though, 2-seed got cold feet and went with someone else, someone that probably wasn’t good enough by a long shot. Georgetown knew it from the very beginning and spent long days looking across the quad while “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” played on his iPod in an endless loop. And Georgetown knows it now, as he watches Villanova fail to treat the 2-seed like she should be treated.

Why so Syracuse?
