Selection Sunday: Where Will Georgetown Be? - Open Thread

Selection_sunday1_medium
This isn't Georgetown, but it could be...

Big East Tournament is officially an after-thought and now it is time to focus on the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

  • Will Georgetown be a 2 seed?
  • It is better to be a low 2 or a high 3 seed?
  • Who will be the #1 in Georgetown's bracket
  • Where will they play?
  • They can't possibly put us in Syracuse, right...?
For those in DC, the Hoya Hoop Club is hosting a Selection Sunday watch with Coach Thompson and the players at the O'Donovan Dining Hall from 5:30-7pm.

Ready.  Set.  Discuss.

2 is nice ego-boost

but I want the 3 in the crap #1 bracket and not in syracuse

Good talk.

by Hire Esherick on Mar 14, 2010 1:04 PM EDT reply actions

don't think we'll get the 2

Give us the high 3 and Duke.

How far is Purdue going to fall?

by HoyaFever on Mar 14, 2010 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

I can’t honestly say that I think we will get a 2 seed. I feel like that is a bit generous. 3 is more likely. And the only good thing about being in the cuse bracket would be we dont need to play cuse. It would still be terrible cus they would be in cuse.

A 2 Seed?!

We lost 10 games!

I just want a 3 seed so we don’t have to bump into UK/KU until the Elite 8

by tjm62 on Mar 14, 2010 1:21 PM EDT reply actions

Reason for 2

RPI: #7
SOS: #1
Wins against Top 25 RPI: 6 (second only to Kansas)

Strong finish in BET

Good talk.

by Hire Esherick on Mar 14, 2010 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions

this i why it will be a 2 seed

what Hire Esherick said…we’ve beaten 4 conference champions…FOUR! thats pretty impressive. The computer will value our SOS and our Wins against top 25 teams very highly if there is any justice in this world.

High fives only on three pointers.

the thought seemed ridiculous to me this morning too. BUT 3 of 3 bracket projections i’m looking at, have Gtown at the 2 seed. I think it may have as much to do with other teams losing (purdue’s destruction) as it does with us peaking right now…there’s nobody else that has really earned the spot either

by VAHoya on Mar 14, 2010 1:45 PM EDT reply actions

Is Moses really announcing today...we are a higher seed then UMD so it should be hard to decide

Hoyas, Terps in tug-of-war

 By Steve Yanda

Moses Abraham arrived in the U.S. from Nigeria in November, and soon, the 19-year-old will choose his college, either Maryland or Georgetown, and break the hearts of one of the schools that doggedly pursued him from the beginning.

interesting article

I like our chances against maryland if only because it sounded like GW was blowing him off. Moses would really round out the class and sounds like Vaughn 2.0

I am more worried about someone like Pearl pulling him in than about the terps. We have not lost many recruiting battles to them in the last four or five years.

lunardi

has us a two in the Kentucky bracket…meaning we’re the 7 seed overall. Baylor’s the 3…if we get that far that would be a tough matchup.

by chicken madness on Mar 14, 2010 4:04 PM EDT reply actions

don't want the 2

we’ve been playing a lot better as a team with something to prove. i think it has been feeding the fire in our guys’ bellies. to get a 2 seed scares me because it might make our guys too complacent.

don’t want none of kansas. kentucky would be aight, with a long shot hope that they lose before we would meet up in elite 8 due to their youth and immaturity (see near loss to Miss St. today). would LOVE to face Purdue in our bracket.

ideal situation: high 3 seed in Duke and/or WVU bracket (if they overtake Duke).

Be not Afraid!

Dude: I get your points, but we gotta play who we gotta play. If we end up matching up with KU or UK early, so be it. We just took down Syracuse 3 days ago, and I’m confident we can match up with anyone, ANYONE, in the country! Bring on all comers!

p.s. - why not in Syracuse?

Would it really be that bad? It’s not as if Cuse fans would come out the woodworks to specifically root against us (unless they really are that evil, but I’m sure they have bigger things to worry about at this point). It’s in the East, a lot easier for Hoya fans to get to than other regions. Plus it means we wouldn’t have to play Cuse for a 4th time, even though I like our chances a lot better now.

Maybe I’m missing something here, but why would that be so bad?

by aja32 on Mar 14, 2010 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I absolutely do think they would come out of the woodwork

The majority of the tix for that venue must have been sold locally, and I could certainly see a lot of cuse fans not selling their tix to fans of teams in the bracket if it means lambasting the hoyas.

Obviously they factor in whether a venue is someone’s home court when creating the bracket. Does the committee also try to keep teams off their biggest rivals’ courts?

And very anti-gtown. The people sitting behind me at MSG said they came to root against gtown, they were from cuse. Had the final been wvu-marq, they would have sold.

I’d go to root against cuse if they played in verizon.

I'm shocked Lunardi has us at a #2 seed right now.

Somehow we got elevated with a loss last night. Unsure why, but Lunardi thinks we are now a #2 seed, (which prior to last night, I really wanted), but not I’m not so sure we want to be that high (or low depending upon your viewpoint). I’ll take whatever we get, (obviously) but I’m going to be shocked if I find out in 45 min. we are a #2 seed.

What sucks is Ohio State must be the #2 there for geographic protection reasons of some kind.

In all probability this group of death has the top #1, #2, and #3.

by SomebodyBuyAustinaSteak on Mar 14, 2010 6:27 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah

If Kansas is #1 overall then Syracuse would have to be the weakest #1, and K-State the top #2 over Ohio State and West Virginia.

That isn’t right – without some geographic shifting.

it really is disgusting

but Nova will beat them…

fortunately the Big East has already proven itself in OOC play this year to be the strongest league, so even with the attempted setups, Duke is not going to the final four.

Hope not..

Duke is terrible.. And the committee has given them an incredibly easy draw… they are clearly the worst #1 seed.. At least put west Virginia in their region, since wvu is probably the best 2, and couldve actually gotten the fourth # 1…

they are one of the few 6 seeds that have actually beaten a 1. Hopson is alright, nut Pearl is not a great game coach and in terms of talent they are no better than say marquette or louisville. I think SDSU used up their luck to win the MW tourney, so it would be very surprising to see them win.

Bummed about our draw

like most people. Yes, of course we gotta come ready to play, and yes I think we have a good chance against any team in this country as long as we’re playing the way we have been playing. But still, there’s good draws and there’s bad ones, there’s lucky ones and there’s unlucky ones. And often times the tourney is all about a team’s particular path to the Final Four. This will certainly be a more challenging path for us compared to some other paths I’m looking at right now.

That being said, let’s get it done.
