does adams have an effect on ochefu?

would have sims, benimon, moses, lubick, hopkins, adams and bolden in the paint

well for starters not all of those guys really play in the paint. only Moses and adams are 5’s the rest are really 4’s. Ochefu would be a 5 and is reportedly supper talented. Talented enough that he shouldn’t care who else is on the roster. He’s probably like greg and will only be around 2 years.

that being said who knows what will happen. recruiting is harder to predict than the weather.

by hoyasincebirth on Oct 27, 2010 6:22 PM EDT reply actions

Adams is only a "slight" GU lean

according to Jerry Meyers

Want this one to resolve soon so we can focus on the season. Ochefu or even Bhullars would be fantastic but with Adams, there will not be so much riding on land Ochefu. Plus if you get Ochefu and Adams, my worry is some else may feel recruited over – e.g. Bolden.

I thought MSU was on the outs but maybe it is closer than it sounds. Still he decommitts to Duke, goes to our MM, says he hearts georgetown big men in the league. Just plain disappointing if he does not say yes.

I’d be willing to say at this point it’s a 75% chance Adams ends up at Georgetown. The number i’m hearing is 60% but I’m willing to up it to 75%.

It has to come

Down to whether he wants to leave mississipi or not. Outside of that, objectively the hoyas represent the better opportunity by almost any metric. Early playing time in the big east, no backseat to football, better coach, better education, an actual city, program with much better history, not the school of Erika dampier, history of developing big men. Sigh.

And by objectively, I mean from the point of view of we are georgetown.

I think Telep really liked what he saw in the EGC

where he was MVP against some quality opposition = big jump. Hopkins was also a big jump, now ahead of Plumlee, Baru, Chol.

Adams is the same, but Telep always had him as a 4 star. Also ESPN increased their curve over the last couple of years
2009 – 96 would put a recruit in the top 25
2010 – 96 would put a recruit in the top 20
2011 – 96 would put a recruit in the top 60

Small Sim Bhullar update

Per NBE – the WVU reference is discouraging.

Sim Bhullar 7′4 Kiski School (2012) — Sim looks great. He’s running the floor much better than the last time I saw him and he’s playing with a lot of determination. He finishes everything around the rim with dunks and blocks/alters his share of shots. His footwork and hands are good and he sees the court very well. Heard West Virginia mentioned more than a few times as far as schools when talking with folks about him. Word is he will be at WVU tonight for their exhibition contest with UNC-Pembroke. He’s not, as some have claimed, a huge project. He’s a very skilled big who needs to continue to work on his stamina and body. Put it this way, if Sim where to go to a St Mary’s he would help them go to 2-3 NCAA tournaments (think Omar Samhan plus the extra inches). Sim is a player.

2012 and 2013

two and three schollies left if 2012 used to the max. Who do we want?

2012 – ochefu, bhullar, anderson, robinson, pollard
2013 – bhullar, freeman, aaron harrison, andrew harrison, jenkins, colbert

i actually agree with allen – pass on bhullars but id rather they go outside the conference.

dream scenario would be ochefu and anderson in 2012 and freeman and harrisons in 2013.

possible scenario is pollard and robinson in 2012 and who knows in 2013

this is all baring transfers though – jt3 went his first year as a headcoach without have a transfer over the offseason

A bit on Anderson

From a couple weeks ago, per the NY Post

Honestly, I would be happy with just Bolden and one of Anderson/Ochefu.

— Speaking of the Playaz, 6-foot-8 point guard Kyle Anderson isn’t as good as advertised – he’s much, much better.

Love his game. The top-ranked point guard in the Class of 2012, who holds plenty of high-major Division I offers, including Georgetown, Seton Hall, Virginia Tech and Xavier, can do it all. He blocks shots, handles the ball, can shoot from the perimeter and is so smooth. Anderson dominates with an effortless ability. No wonder St. Anthony is ranked so high in several preseason polls. He had his way with the Kangaroos, which is no easy task against the defensive-minded club, scoring 24 points in the victory.

interview with devonta pollard

another recruit kirby is trying to land.

Last month, Pollard also had another good experience when it took an unofficial visit to Georgetown and took in the Hoya’s Midnight Madness practice."It was great and everyone up there was very nice," said Pollard, who averaged 17.9 points, 9.7 board and 5.1 blocks a game as a sophomore. "It was good to see their campus and it was a good atmosphere. The coaches told us what they expect from their players in their program and it was just a good weekend.

Vince Van Ness

Per NBE, we offered this kid. First I heard him mentioned.

A big man who will have a lot of schools watching him this season in the NEPSAC is Vince Van Nes, a 6-foot-11 England native.
Van Nes currently plays at Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) for head coach John Carroll.
"Van Nes will wait," Carroll said Wednesday.
He holds offers from Colorado, Fairfield, Florida International and others, with Wake Forest, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Washington State showing interest.

Class of 2011 Gets A- from ESPN
The Hoyas made two statements with this three-man class. John Thompson III added beef up front and toughness on the perimeter. It’s no secret the Class of 2011 lacks size, but the Hoyas scored shot-blocker Mikael Hopkins (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) and space-eater Tyler Adams (Brandon, Miss./Brandon). The underrated recruit of the trio is Jabril Trawick (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends). If we’re correct about Trawick, he’ll be a rugged wing who won’t back down in the rough and tumble Big East.

CBS/Max Preps

Puts us at 25 Johnnies at 4, even though no one player is higher than 42. I guess they make it up in volume.

25. Georgetown
Top 100: No. 53 Tyler Adams (6-9, 255, F/C); No. 84 Mikael Hopkins (6-9, 210, F)
Other: Jabril Trawick (6-4, 180, G)
Big men Adams, a former Duke commitment, and Hopkins look to continue Hoyas’ frontcourt tradition.

“The academic system, the coach and the basketball system, too,” he said of his criteria. “I feel like they have to have good academics just so I can have a plan B since my plan is to play in the NBA. And I have to have a good relationship with the coach just so we can get along and are on the same page. And also a system I feel like I can fit into both on and off the court, so a good fit basketballwise, but also off the court.”

From Cameroon originally, plays for team take over. I thought he was at MM, and JTIII has been to at least two of his games. But we are on a ton of 2012 SFs and not sure if he is at the top of that. Tough to see where Judge would get minutes, plus it would likely send a negative signal to the 800 other bigs we are on (Anderson, Pollard, Moto, Howard, Jefferson Porter) and potentially even ochefu. Can’t take the risk.

are we in trouble if we don't sign Porter?

It seems like we’ll be an ok team, but not a great team for the next two years if we don’t sign Porter, who seems to be our last hope for a top 50 2011 recruit, no?

I mean, otherwise, next year our starting lineup is Starks, Clark, Hollis, Nate, and Henry? If that’s the case, we’ll really need Hollis to take a big step up offensively. He’s a stone cold jump shooter, but we’ll need to rely on him to carry the team by creating shots.

I feel soooo sad that you & your orange clad kinfolk can't get tickets to our home game.....

top 50 label is meaningless

we have a solid recruiting class in adams, hopkins and trawick. signing another big wont drastically change next year’s results. very few freshman, especially big men, have a major impact in the big east.

i think we’ll be alright next year. dont have that many scholarships between 2011 and 2012, need to be strategic in how we use them.

I agree

Trawick and Adams have had solid senior years and look to be closing strong. Adams destroyed Plumlee when they played head to head this year and plumee managed to back into being a Micky D AA (thanks Duke). So I think we are set. But I get the point, we do not have any clear cut NBA guys (like Austin, Chris or Greg) outside of maybe Thompson. Still the class is balanced, with no real weaknesses and could easily blossom to be special.

Would really have liked to see more out of Hopkins and Bolden this season.

Any special players coming in?

I know one who would die to be there but, after a conversation with someone close to the program, the only way he can get there is as a walk-on (unless someone decommits).

He’s 6’5", 195 lbs. shooting guard with Ray Allen-like range. He is the best player to come out of Spain since Pau Gasol and played at Powerhouse Oak Hill Academy. He was “almost” a Hoya this season but during the recruiting period last year, his SAT score wasn’t high enough… ended up going to another D-1 program but he wants to be a Hoya…

Right now, his chances are remote. He reminds me of Steph Curry: hard to get into the program he wants to, probably end up killing fools at the mid-major level.

Oh well… what can you do? A player who can carry the program for the next couple of years but…

Late bloomer

And has put up good numbers when playing legit comp, just has not played against legit comp that much. This is not Benimon 2.0. Other majors are interested as well so they see it to. Btw – JTIII was out to see Porter play this week as well. Really putting in the miles.

As discussed, that we are on two 2011 sf so hard means staff has to be worried about a potential transfer – otherwise why would we need the wing with Trawick, Hollis, Bowen, all available. On Porter is would say we have 25 to 35% chance, Mizzou is widely thought to be in the lead. Whittington, from all accounts, is ours to lose.

Still on a ton of 2012 bigs and wings too.

If falls on JT3

if he’s willing start Adams on the blocks or will he go with Sims due to his experience of knowing the offense…..

I do agree if HT plays his ‘natural position’ at the 2 he should be able to do wonders. I’m unsure if hopkins is a 3 b/c he doesn’t posses the outside jumper so he’ll be a liability on offense.

He has options to throw at teams, he may go with:
Starks, JClark, HT, Lubick, Sims
Starks, Vee, HT, Lubick, Adams
Starks, HT, JT5, Lubick, Ayegba

Saw the twitter exchange between trawick and Ochefu

that HSB posted elsewhere. So glad we locked up trawick, he is going to be fun to follow for the next few years. Hopefully Hoyas Since Birth will post anything else interesting.

As an aside – per the Post, Terps will likely get Justin Anderson, 6’7" 2012 sf from Montrose Christian – ranked 50ish overall. Anderson and Faust (2011 top 50 guard from Bmore) are two good players. Dont like Bino getting Gary back on track with the local kids.

Lol. I’m sure they’re very happy about that. But he’s incredibly overrated. He hasn’t developed at all. People expected him to be awesome, but he’s just an athlete. Hasn’t developed his skill set at all. Can’t dribble or shoot. look at his scout profile: Strengths: Athleticism, rebounding in his area, and defensive presence. Weaknesses ball handling and 3pt shooting. What good is a Small forward that can’t dribble(slash) or Shoot ? LOL good luck with that twerps.

by Big Spoon on Mar 19, 2011 3:21 AM EDT reply actions

Remarkable

JT3 did a remarkable coaching job with this team. This was certainly the smallest and one of the least talented G-town team in years.

We had no inside post prescence. No big-time rebounder. No intimidation, so we couldn’t prevent penetration (give Henry credit for trying). Julian was awful down the stretch. Austin’s flaws showed without Chris. Awful perimeter defense, especially vs. 3 point gunners. Great kids, quality people but no surefire NBA types. Holly and Chris will play in the NBA. don’t know about anyone else. Coach got the most out of them. Nate is only 6-7 and struggles vs. bigs inside. Now we need Ochefu, and/or the big man Parker ’12 from Georgia to come add some swag and inside play. Starks will turn out to be a player too. Must play under control. Will Moses ever be in shape enough to play ? see some good signs there, but…..

Remember these names: DaShonte Riley-big time inside presecence. His scholly went to JB. Mike Davis-4 yr Illini starter, Gus Gilchrist (an admitted jerk at times-but better than Juilan)-both begged to be Hoyas. Chris Braswell-tough bruiser-couldn’t make it academically. Can’t afford more mistakes in recruiting.

Go Hoyas ! The team will rise above and actually be better in 2011-2012. Old style defense and riding the J-Clark, Holly and Starks scoring wave. Adams will be a baller.

by pcbiz on Mar 19, 2011 8:26 AM EDT reply actions

Right now

“Defense/Rebouding/Strategy” is a “must” that needs to be worked on, in which it has been stated on previous posts regarding this team under the JT3 regime (the definite achilles heel).

Adams/Lubick/Ayegba are “undersized”, yes they have bulk but they’re lacking in length
Sims is wirey, but doesn’t have strength? So it’s pretty hard to determine what JT3 strategy in who/what he’s looking for in recruiting big men. Also how the big men are constantly in the high post and this kills the aspects of rebounding, and also again how the pf/c end up with hoisting the 3 pt shot while the clock is winding down. Therefore alot of factors come into play regarding x’s and o’s.

Regarding ‘heart’, that is amongst the ‘individual’ whom he is trying to get a hold of.

Jabril trawick could play a good point.. in 2013 we could start
6’5 Point Trawick
6’7-6’8 shooting guard Hollis
6-9 Small forward Whittington (Porter.. yes please!!)
6-9 Power forward (Nate, Hopkins)
6-9- 6’10 Center (Addams, Moses)

Niiiiiiiiiiice!!!!

Slowly wakes up from delusional dream of basketball bliss

i prefer to imagine us landing Kyle Anderson and then have no one shorter than 6’8" in the starting line up.

is he showing interesting still at all with the Hoyas?

Jarion Henry played

in something called the Jack Jones Shootout on Sunday. Decent comptetion, had a sterling 2 pts. Why are we after him again with Whittington in the fold?

if they're both here at the same time I say

toss them a ball and say we have 1 scholarship. Play for it. First 1 to 11 by 1’s get’s the scholarship. The other is welcome to walk on.

Amile Jefferson

anyone hear anything on him?

Philadelphia Inquirer has us offering him. He’s a Junior 6’8 kid. Lot’s of philly peeps think very highly of him

by hoyafan03 on Apr 3, 2011 9:48 AM EDT reply actions

I really liked him. We were on him early. His dad was seen wearing a Georgetown Shirt at an AAU event last year. Seems like we’ve backed off though. And if we land another wing in the 2011 class like it seems like we’re trying to do I can’t see us going after Amile in 2012. But I’ve been wrong many times before so what do I know.

i've heard duke is on him

but he likes that we get bigs to league

Interesting

his coach said style of play won’t affect Porter’s decision. Looks like JTIII will have to sell on his relationship with players/family feel of gtown.

by lahoya on Apr 3, 2011 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions

I just hope

that JT3 sells the partridge family love to Porter, b/c we going to need his (and the other incoming class) services quick, fast, and in a hurry!

The entire twitter basketball community is laughing at this hire.

However the one thing Frank Haith can do is recruit.
Unfortunately for him the one thing Frank Haith can’t do is coach.

by hoyasincebirth on Apr 4, 2011 10:30 AM EDT up reply actions

It's going to be hard

I’m wondering what tatics will he use besides being close to home and giving Porter the opportunity to give him (Haith) a chance to show his coaching resume (if he wants to ride with that statement)….

surprised I hadn't heard our names mentioned earlier.

When he chose Tennessee it was over Georgetown we were in his top 2. We pushed harder for tyrone johnson than ware though so Ware went to Tennessee. Sounds more comboish than true point, but It sounded like at the time we were recruiting him to play point. Very athletic would fit in with the new recruiting direction of the program.

by hoyasincebirth on Apr 5, 2011 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Indeed

this just add to more speculation of who is leaving the Hoyas program…

With Trawick on board

at same position with very simliar skill sets, why are we on him again ? JC, Vee, Trawick and Bowen could all play off-guard, to say nothing of shifting Hollis to the 2. Even if two of those folks leave I am not sure he makes sense other than depth.

Go get DSR, leave Kevin be.

by bunk moreland on Apr 5, 2011 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Unless

Trawick will play some PG and let Vee and JC work from the SG position, and then have Bowen (6’6") and HT (6’7") as your 3, so perhaps JT3 will start pressing more on D and speed up the O. So length won’t be the issue as much during certain points of the game out of the perimeter.

by Big Spoon on Apr 5, 2011 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions

If we're fortunate to land 2 out of Ware, Porter, and Henry

We’ll have some serious athletes and we better be pressing and running like crazy.

by Jason's Laptop on Apr 5, 2011 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions

If two of those leave we better bring in another guard for next season

Ideally you would want someone with a better handle than Ware but I’d take him. Then get a real back-up point guard in 2012. Bowen seems like more of a 3 anyway.

by Jason's Laptop on Apr 5, 2011 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions

I think

Trawick will be the ideal big pg for the Hoyas to give Starks a breather from time to time.

AB will be either shifting from 2-3 in different situation, I just hope JT3 can utilize this size if Porter (1st choice)/DSR/Ware (3rd) come to the fold.

by Big Spoon on Apr 6, 2011 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting Frank Haith is bringing in Jeff Capel as his assistant.

ESPN Updated their rankings

Otto Porter 31st
Mikael Hopkins 76th
Jabril Trawick 78th

Greg and Adams not ranked in ESPN’s top 100

by hoyasincebirth on Apr 7, 2011 1:26 PM EDT reply actions

He’s 54th on Rivals I believe but Dave Telp who used to run scout and now runs ESPN has never been high on him. To be fair though Adams is rated as a 93 on ESPN’s metirc the same as a lot of the top 100 players so he probably is just missing the top 100.

good question

some follow-ups:

His HS coach says he’ll reclassify, that still seems to be up in the air according to him.
If he is a member of the 2012 class, and things stand. There is a whole lot of confidence in one, Mr. Trawick.

What does this last one mean?

Figured this was relevant to post here:

(Just re-reporting/confirming something Iwillpaytheway!! said on another thread, all credit to him)

Mikael Hopkins is eligible for a free ride at Georgetown due to an immediate family member having a long term employment with the university. In that case, he could attend for free and walk on. OBVIOUSLY, if he was being recruited, he would still count against the scholarship limit. The news I’ve heard, however, is that he’s wanted to go to Georgetown since he was a kid, and no real “recruiting” was involved.

Of course, this is a long shot, but III is communicating with the NCAA to see how/if this would work. Doubt it will happen though.

by WallaceAtTheLineShooting2 on Apr 16, 2011 10:53 PM EDT reply actions

Hopefully this is true

b/c this would work in well with the Hoyas, if not, JB will be the next casualty!

by Big Spoon on Apr 16, 2011 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

it wont work

hopkins was still recruited, which means he will count against the 13 “counter” number, regardless of which scholarship bank pays his tuition.

the rule:

A recruited student-athlete who receives outside financial aid for which athletics participation is a major criterion (see Bylaw 15.2.6.4) shall become a counter for the year during which the student-athlete receives the aid

any lawyers out there with a different interpretation?

2012 Cali combo guard we’ve been on forever, has expressed interest in playing in the BE, and thinks that’s where he will get to play against the best comp (smart kid).

Looking for a PG/SG

Hire is that Anthony Anderson from Florida? How about Trinson White from WI, he is a bit tall for the position but he might be a good replacement for Vee, I liked his evaluation on ESPN.

Looking for a PG/SG

I know that these two guy’s are rather low on the ratings (ESPN), but with the scholarship issue and since we already have a true PG in Starks one of these two could work coming off the bench. Trinson White is pretty consistent from the arc and has handles. This would give defenders fits while the Bigs are putting in work in the paint. “Check out” Trinson White on You Tube, not much on him just two clips!!!!!!

Well for starters

pg – Starks / Trawick
sg – J Clark / A Bowen / Caprio

This is how the Hoyas look at this particular moment

by Big Spoon on Apr 21, 2011 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Jabril primarily a 2, isn't he?

JT III has apparently told him he will spend some time as PG, but that’s not his primary position (currently)

"I don't know. I'm making this up as I go."

by aja32 on Apr 21, 2011 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Trawick

is primarily the 2 at the moment, but he’ll have some time at the pg spot, unless JClark will move to the pg spot to help out (to come off of the bench, in which I ‘highly’ doubt)

by Big Spoon on Apr 22, 2011 6:31 AM EDT up reply actions

I had Bowen playing 3, Trawick playing 2 with Clark, and Starks at the 1 all by himself.

should the Hoyas be bothered with him now

I believe DSR would the better option for 2012

by Big Spoon on Apr 27, 2011 12:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Bring in Kyle and put him at the PG

With Jabril/Bowen or in a perfect world Hollis at the 2… Then hit… gulp..JB up for that matchup zone because small quick guards would obliterate our defense.. lol.. we would be 6-8 6-8 6-9 6-9 6-9 for the starting five, and unguardable. Yes pretty please

by yaboynyp on Apr 27, 2011 1:19 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah that is truly a large line up

I believe Kyle would be more of a point-forward more than anything, we don’t need anymore forward here at Forward U!
