Class of 2012 Big Man Brandon Bolden Commits To Georgetown

Midnight Madness is off to a great start.  Brandon Bolden, a 6'10" center from the Crozet Miller School in Virginia, has committed to Georgetown per Nationwide Nolan's Twitter.

Bolden, a member of the class of 2012, is a huge get for John Thompson III and staff.  Georgetown continues to recruit well in its backyard, adding Mikael Hopkins and Bolden over the past two weeks.

More to follow as we learn more information, but for now enjoy Midnight Madness and know that Georgetown continues to build on the successes of the past few years.

prior blurbs..
“He’s a transfer from Sumter High School in South Carolina and he’ll be attending the Miller School,” Burgess said. “He’s 6-foot-10 and about 200 pounds right now, and he has a 7-foot-3 wing span. He’s kind of in the mold of a Chris Bosh type, in terms of a mobile big man.”

“I’d say he’s more of a face-up four-man,” Burgess added. “He can play in the post but he’s not going to be a full-time, back-to-the basket player. That’s not really his game.”

100% official
“It’s where my heart is and it feels like a good fit. The staff was real genuine and I liked that. I really like the atmosphere and the family appeal showed at Georgetown by not just the team and staff, but the entire Georgetown family,” Bolden told VirginiaPreps.com.

Next question...

Who is Brandon Bolden?

Zags has him pictured as this guy:

while rivals has him as this guy:

Good stuff from Zags:
Bolden liked Georgetown’s tradition of sending big men like Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Morning, Dikembe Mutombo and Roy Hibbert to the NBA.

Asked if he wanted to follow them into the league, Bolden said, "Yes, sir. Definitely. That’s the plan. The tradition of Georgetown sending guys to the league, that’s a plus. Being such a great school it fits for me and they send people to the league, that’s a plus."

Bolden wants to develop his face-up game and said the staff told him, "If I continue to work hard, which I will, they see a Jeff Green or Greg Monroe kind of thing."

What’s interesting about Bolden is that while he’s been seen on the circuit by scouts, it wasn’t until this fall that his stock began to heat up. A native of South Carolina, he transferred to Charlottesville (Va.) Miller School this fall and word began leaking out of his improvement.

This could very well be a case of the Hoyas getting far enough ahead of the pack to lock up a good player before many of their counterparts had a chance to evaluate Bolden, let alone recruit him.

"I always knew that’s where I wanted to go. It was just a matter of the time of when I was going to do it," Bolden said. "My mom gave me the green light to do it when I felt it was right."

Crozet

Has a really good pizza place. Not sure about their ability to develop basketball talent, however.

I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.

mixed bag on that. drummond was a long shot to begin with. ochefu and bolden can co exist in same system, playing 4 and 5.

Don’t see him impacting a true center like Ochefu coming here. As his coach said he’s more of a 4. And to answer the next question, no I don’t think it’s a problem with hopkins since i see hopkins as a 3/4 while bolden is a 4/5 and ochefu is a true 5 back to the basket guy all 3 could be on the court together ala dajuan, jeff, and roy. That worked out pretty well for us. add in a Hollis at the 2 that’d be a huge large line up especially if we land Kyle Anderson and played him at PG some smallest player being 6’7". RDF would drool.

When is the next time to see the team

actually out on the court? Blue Grey game or do we have any exhibitions scheduled?

by bunk moreland on Oct 18, 2010 9:03 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah Gtown doesn’t do a blue/grey game and they do closed scrimmages against D-I opponents rather than open exhibition gmaes against D-II opponents.

But open practice is a great event for hoop club members to get a look at the team.

This is a big time pick up BUT

I am still waiting for these guys, who were both seen being shown around the MSB Building over the Weekend.
