Big East Basketball vs. SEC Football - Which is More Dominant?

Bleacher Report has an interesting comparison but neglects to mention that football national championships take one win whereas basketball national championships require six.

If basketball were like football, the 2009 National Champion would have been from the Big East since the two top seeds were Louisville and Pitt.

Good talk.

SEC

Past Three Years SEC Has Won the BCS National Championship. Two out of the Past three years the SEC has won the Men’s Basketball National Title. SEC dominates football, Big East is not even the best basketball conference ( I have to give the nod to the media crazed ACC. To contradict myself here are some stats:

1. Big East – .619 (21,125 – 13,019) St. John’s leads with 1705 wins (#5 all-time)

2. ACC – .590 (14,789 – 10,289) North Carolina leads with 1914 (#2 all-time) wins; Duke — 1818 (#4 all-time)

3. Pac 10 – .580 (13,719 – 9,931) UCLA leads with 1530 wins; Oregon State — 1529

4. SEC – .57923 (15,236 – 11,068) The Kentucky Wildcats lead the nation with 1948 all time wins

5. Big Ten – .57918 (14,417 – 10,475) Indiana leads with 1555 wins

6. Big-12 – .566 (15,434 – 11,823) Kansas leads with 1906 wins (#3 all-time). Note the Big-12 is actually # 2 in all time wins, but # 6 in winning percentage.

Editing

Okay so I write things quickly and do not proof read. Those stats came from when I googled Best Basketball Conference. It doesnt not take into account that teams play each in conference and the win % would be .500. Also SEC was 2005 & 2007. EIther way last time Big East won was in 2004, 2003. ACC 2009, 2005. Who care about Kansas. Hooray B10, MSU way to represent in 2000, Mateen Cleeves.

Best Conference

Equals conference with most good teams

This year Big East had:
7 Tourney Bids
3 Number 1 seeds – RECORD
5 Sweet Sixteen teams – RECORD
4 Elite Eight teams – RECORD

ACC by comparison had:
7 Tourney Bids
1 Number 1 seed
2 Sweet Sixteen teams
1 Elite Eight team
4 Teams lose in the first round of games, all to lower seeds

Good talk.

Silly Hagel Indeed

This is way late but I couldn’t let this pass without commenting on Hagel’s amateurish attempt to disprove the superiority of Big East basketball. So let me say Hagel that was an amateurish attempt to disprove the superiority of Big East basketball. Hooray for commenting.
