The Waiting Game

After the signings of Vee Sanford and Jerrelle Benimon early last week, there has been very little news coming out of Georgetown recently.  Coaches still await the results of Latavious Williams' qualifying exams, and there have been conflicting reports on whether Williams was actually on campus last Friday for Georgetown Day.  Some folks definitively saw him, others saw a really tall guy that was not Roy Hibbert.

The highly-touted Williams has reportedly narrowed his list to two schools: Georgetown and Memphis.  Memphis is desperately in need of recruits as Darnell Dodson decided to back out of his LOI to Memphis and follow Calipari to Kentucky. Dodson joins Nolan Dennis, C.J, Henry, and Xavier Henry as former Memphis recruits to commit somewhere else after Calipari departed for the Bluegrass State.

Maryland recently announced that All-Met Junior Terrence Ross has given a verbal to the Terps.  Ross is a 6'5'' SG, who would play the same position as Lance Stephenson, which raises the question of whether Maryland is aware that their chances of landing the heavily-recruited guard out of New York are dwindling.  Latest news on Stephenson, who was thought to be deciding between Kansas, Maryland and St. John's is that he is unhappy with his choices and might be looking to head west.

Good talk.

Another Tiger Leaves the Program

Matt Simpkins will transfer from Memphis

He was not a major contributor by any means. He was academically ineligible for a portion of the season and suspended for another part, but he would have competed with Latavious for playing time next year.

Question Latavious should be asking (assuming he qualifies):

Go to Memphis and get immediate playing time on a team that has been decimated after the departure of Calipari, but runs a fast-paced offense of which he will be a critical contributor.

- or -

Go to Georgetown and play on a more competitive team that has a better shot of going further in the tourney over the next few years, in an offense where he would be expected to play a more well-rounded role.

Or in other words: Does he want to be a Joey Dorsey or a PE Jr.

Good talk.
